Fron headphone socket

Hi, I notice for some of the cases there is an asterix following the front of case details e.g. "2 x Front USB 2.0 | Front Headphone jack and Mic*".

What is the significance of the asterix - I am wondering if this means the from headphone/mic jacks may not be connected depending on choice of motherboard, etc. If this is the case, how do you tell when it is / isn't connected?

I don't know why it's there, but i believe practically every motherboard will have audio jacks with it, so i wouldn't worry about it :)
