TV Card help

Hey there, sorry if this is quite a stupid question - I'm still pretty new to PC building. I came across the option for a TV card - and particularly the 'HAUPPAUGE WinTV-NOVA-HD-S2' interested me. I would love the ability to watch TV on my PC - it is always occupied by others and never thought this was possible! So how does this work exactly? Apart from, as I expect, installing any software that comes with it, do I need to do anything, or does it pick up the signals automatically? And what kind of channels am I to expect/what quality?

That particular tv card would need to be connected to a satellite dish,
there are options for ones that are connected to an aerial,
depending on signal strength,an indoor amplified aerial might suffice.
