my pc is past 3 years old now and i have gone through the options for a new gaming machine , it came to just under £1300, so i want to get the best performance for my money i already have a a samsung 3D monitor and the glasses , and a decent keyboard and mouse , i play warhammer and BF2 BC for the most part with a little bit of GRID :)

Great spec, but it can be improved in 2 ways:

1. Select a single (more powerful) graphics card. GTX470 perhaps?

2. My advice is to avoid RAID STRIPE because of the increased risk of data loss should a drive fail. If its increased performance you're aftewr, consider a solid state disk with a secondary storage drive.

First-off, wise choice on the 64mb cached drive. You could veen go for 1TB storage for very very little more.

As PCS said, go for that GTX 470, very good plan.

However, consider allocating extra funding for an HX1000W if you do this as, you can then add a second GTX 470 to this immense rig for much cheaper in say a year's time and double performance of an already v powerful GPU.

Thanks for the response, I went for the raid 0 stripe for the extra speed, a couple of solid drives with anywhere near the capacity to handle the few games i do have installed all the time ( 2x 120gig minimum ) add around £400 to the price , i am pretty much at the limit of my budget at £1285, my reasoning with the " if one disc fails " thing is that if i only have one drive and it fails i am in the same position as losing all the data on 2, as long as i can reinstall ( after replacing the busted drive ) i can just get going again(hopefully!) if you have anything else i need to know about the raid setup that i have totally missed, i am glad to hear it.

now to the card, after speaking to one of your colleagues in the online chat, we came up with 2 x GTX460 instead of 2 x GTS 450 ,for around £40 extra. you say go for 1 x GTX 470 , this will outperform 2 x GTX 460's in every way ? no downside whatsoever ? if so it also saves me about a tenner. so please elaborate :)
thanks :)

No, a 470 will not outperform 2x 460s. But, a 470 will play EVERY game at the moment on max. I can tell you this because I have one in my system. The point of getting a 470 now is that, you can add anothr 470 in like 1 year's time so you are left with 2x GTX 470s instead of 2x GTX 460s in SLI. 2x GTX 470s will outperform a GTX 480 and 2x GTX 460s, 2x GTX 465s

Here it is then with a couple of changes ( GPU and PSU) , the 1000w PSU you mentioned took me way over budget, i chose the (probably louder) 1010w thingy, also 650gig is enough storage. this as you can see takes me £6 over budget, ill trust your jusdgment with the single card thing :)

Oh trust me its gonna be well worth it :D If you want to save those £6, you can go for the 1333Mhz Samsung RAM if you have no intention to do any overclocking as the difference inperformance in minute. The essentials are the amount of GBs (6 here) and the fact that you have 3x2GB and that your mothebroard supports Tri-DDR3 (triplets of modules so 2+2+2 is better suited than 4+2 for e.g.).

Cheers then guys :) , i am not going to play about with it any more then as i will lose my mind trying to decide between bits and pieces! hopefully it will outperform this ZX81 that i am trying to get to play all my games ;)
