Hi everyone,

I'm planning on purchasing an overclocked i7 980X. I have selected:

Arctic Cooling MX-3 High Thermal Conductivity Compound

CoolIT ECO A.L.C Cooler

Would these components have sufficient cooling for the CPU if it is overclocked to 4.0GHz? Or am I limited to how much I can overclock?

I can't purchase the COOLIT ECO C240 A.L.C (ADVANCED LIQUID COOLER) because it does not fit the case I have selected.

Thanks, Jack.

Should be fine.

This cpu really doesnt need an overclock though.

Thank you :)

The main use is video encoding. I had a project recently where the final encode was 2 pass x264. It took 30 hours :(

ouch, maybe GPGPU could help?

Depends on what software you are using i guess.

I will be using 2 GTX570's to help rendering 3D in programs such as 3DS Max, Lightwave etc, once I work out how of course xD

Thanks for the link, I'll look into it now.

The 30 hours came from a h.264 program encoder called MeGUI. And that time is excluding the render to .avi from Sony Vegas before hand, which took 16 hours :D

Can you explain how the overclocking works when you buy it from PCSpecialist? It says max 4GHz. Does this mean you will specify how much it is overclocked? Or do I specify it somewhere? I'm a little confused :)

We will OC the machine and take it as high as we think is stable, this is different for each machine.

And the product remains in warranty?

I know I void warranty if I do it, that's why I'm getting it done from stock by you guys. And I have a lot more faith in PCSpecialist's abilities than mine.

I just read your thread on dedicating NVIDIA graphics cards for physics. I found it really helpful, thank you :)

Yes it remains in warranty if they do it.

Thank you, that's definitely a relief.

I see you have the Rampage III Extreme, how is it treating you? I've seen people say it has poor quality control (when they buy it from an independent seller).

havent had a problem with it as of yet :) Im running a GTX 470 and 3x 9800GTs on it, with an i7 930, its behaving very well. and the quad x8 lane speed is excellent, only about a 2% drop in performance apparently (when using a GTX 580)

I'm going to be SLI'ing 2 GTX570's with an OC'd i7 980X, and 6 Gig of RAM, which looks less than what you're running.

So it makes me very happy to see you can run that much :)

I had a rampage III Extreme for nearly a year, never skipped a beat for me. Just my personal opinion.
