Having once been an employee at PC world I can advise unreservedly to avoid Advent like the plague. Advent is essentially their own brand (along with Ei Systems & another I forget the name of) and the returns rate on them is nothing short of shocking.
I personally don't like the (normally) tacky plasticy Packard Bell machines, they feel like I'm going to break something every time I've handled one.
As much as I hate the excessive software that comes pre-loaded (not as bad as HP for this), I'd personally go for the Acer of those 3. Build quality is usually solid.
Alternatively, just set one up on here for her, best deal she's going to get!

I guess I just got lucky with my Advent 7008. Still works after 8 years (although pretty slow now).
Just bought my first PCS desktop and very happy so far. I spent about 2 years going back and forth to PC World etc., but could never find the right combination of hardware that I wanted, therefore ended up here.
My daughter bought a laptop from Dell. When she had a problem with graphics after about a month, they didn't want to know. The helpdesk just said it must be software related or a problem caused by something she'd dowloaded and that software isn't covered under warranty. So that was a waste of time.
At least buying from PCS gives you access to a decent helpdesk and a great forum.
Having said that, I'm sure that if Korey's friend has a problem with her shop bought laptop, then the forum would do their best to help.
