it seems that in my laptop, the lithium battery (watch sized) has split and basically, i now have black powder stuff all over my laptop mobo etc, it seems to work fine still and I havent noticed any difference in performance, but can it be dangerous? im assuming it will shorten the life of my laptop but can it be poisonus to people? I discarded the battery and hope to get another one to replace it whenever i can

I dont have a laptop from PCS, its a HP G61-406SA and its out of warranty

I wouldn't want to breathe it or get it on my skin. Probably want to wear gloves and a facemask while you clean it up.

It probably came to the end of the life, and i'm guessing, given hp's track record with cooling it got pretty hot and split open due to extreme temps. Your best bet is to get a pair of protective gloves, and with a cotton bud dipped in distilled water wipe away the residue left behind, then leave to dry in a warm dry place overnight to make sure no water has been left behind.
