Hi guys,

I've changed my spec and come up with the system below. I use my PC pretty much for a bit of everything!

I need it to be future proof and fairly quiet. My thoughts are that I can drop in another GTX460 in the future and also increase the Ram in the future if needed.

One question - Regarding the SSD - I'm concerned that I may fill this up at some point especially if I use it for games, and if that is the case, would it be OK to add another SSD card in the future and use it for extra programs or games etc, still keeping the 1TB drive purely for storage? I'm thinking that the SSD prices will have dropped significantly in the future so it may work out cost effective to add another later rather than splashing out on a bigger SSD now?

Is 4GB ram enough for now?

I know I probably don't need a Caviar Black just for storage but I just feel that if the motherboard supports 6Gb/s I may as well utilise it.

(BTW the speakers are actually going to be used with my old PC which is going to my daughter - I'm set up now with 7.1 speakers.)

I'm also purchasing a monitor elsewhere, possibly a BenQ 24 inch

Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome!

Looking good.

IMHO ditch the ssd and go for more ram. I have always preferred a smaller normal drive (250GB) for the system drive.

Great spec you've put together there!

4GB of RAM will be enough memory for the time being, although in 3-4 years time things may have changed as more powerful games and applications will no doubt emerge.

Good thinking regarding the SSD - yes it's likely you will be able to get a much larger drive for the same price or even cheaper, but I can't say if that will be in 1 years time or 3-4 years time. If you ordered a 60GB SSD now, this will cater for your OS and primary programs, and should leave room if you ensure all your storage is done on your 1TB drive.

Thanks for the info guys,

Gorman can you explain more as to why you would ditch the SSD? I'm keen on the fast boot up and fast response etc. (Although nothing is as fast as the respnses you get on this forum!!!)

Also, regarding the SSD is the OCZ the one to go for? It appears to be faster than the Intel ones - Is this true?

In my humble opinion, fast boot ups is nice and all but im more out for gaming performance. The money saved could go a long way towards bringing the ram to 6gb which is a more fitting (triple channel) config for this machine.

I have been following SSD's since they first appeared thinking "there will be a better £ for GB one soon", im still waiting.

At the moment bang for buck the vertex is indeed the better choice if you do go SSD.

Thanks again for the info:

I've upgraded the memory to 6GB as per Gorman's suggestion. (Didn't realise about the triple channel thingy!)

My budget is pretty much maxed now.

One last question - Should I stick with the Samsung memory? Any advantage with the others as it's not much difference in price?

Looks good, Samsung is fine for gaming. Only go for 1600 if you really want to overclock to 4.0ghz
