As for matresses, a colleague of mine gave me a memory foam topper, so just sits on top of your normal matress, maybe look at one of those instead of forking out for a whole new very expensive matress?

i hate memory foam, cant sleep on them lol. Tbh your best bet with matresses is to go to a few hotels (ring um to find out what matresses / beds they have) and go test them out for a proper nights sleep, lying on them in shop deffinately doesnt give the right impression of a bed.
