Hello, I love my PC but my car is currently broken, I am already £400 in the hole and it looks like costing at least another £700.

I need some advice on the best place to sell a PC? Ebay seems logical but the 10% they take is not ideal, so that would leave gumtree as the only real option.

I paid over £900 for it, I know I won't even get close to that, is £650 realistic or is it really pointless even trying to sell it?

Hi guys,

I am using Virgin Media's Superhub and my new PC (arriving tomorrow :D) can connect to the 5GHz wireless band. The problem is, none of the other devices in my house (except my phone) can. I have connected my old netgear 2.4GHz wireless router into one of the Superhub's ports using ethernet, and my other devices seem to be able to wirelessly connect to it fine. I have not had to adjust any settings on either of the routers. My phone connects to the 5GHz router fine as well. However, I am worried if it's okay having 2 SSIDs and passwords for what is essentially the same connection, just different wireless bands.

Could you advise on if this set-up is fine, or do I need to change some settings on the routers? I had a look at the IP addresses of both, the 2.4GHz router has it set to get the IP dynamically from the ISP. Unfortunately I know very little about these matters, but I have read elsewhere that I should change the IP address of my second router. Is there a risk if both routers end up having the same IP address, or will they get 2 different IP addresses from my ISP?

I want to be able to run concurrent 2.4GHz and 5 GHz without having to spend money on a concurrent wireless router.

Sorry if anything wasn't clear, and thanks in advance :)

Right gentlemen I need your services.

The missus, in her own adorable way, has ballsed my PC. She was trying to download a codec for WMP and has picked up some sort of crapware. Its done the usual browser switch, which I've been able to undo using Chrome, however I have a weird file in C:/Users/Blackdog/Appdate/Roaming named Yontoo. According to msconfig this is trying to start a whole load of nonsense when I startup and I'd like to delete it, and in doing so smite its ruin upon the mountainside.

The problem is windows says that the file is in use, and therefore beyoned deleting every time i start my pc. Any ideas? I will douse productive answers in reputation points if that encourages you :)

*Edit* Please could a mod insert a "U" in the title in place of my misspelled "I." I'll pay real money for this.

TL;DR: potential scammers, claiming to be 'authorised clearance agents' for HMRC, and contacting you to notify that you are required to pay import...

TL;DR: potential scammers, claiming to be 'authorised clearance agents' for HMRC, and contacting you to notify that you are required to pay import taxes via email. Dodgy site, and so on.

Well, I have received an Email of which claims to be from an 'authorised clearance agent', who say that I am required to pay tax, which consists of customs entry and import VAT for something I have ordered. Funnily enough, I have ordered something overseas, and it also mentions a word in relation to where I have ordered from, but that said, last time I bought anything overseas, I was left a voicemail to notify me, the only required payment consisted of import duty, which is marked in this Email as being £0.00.

It details that they can not deliver until payment is made.

It has a site within the Email, the message format itself looks fine and so on. I decide to check the site, and turns out not only does the site advisor mark it as being unchecked in terms of safety, it's not even a secure one at that, and the only payment options mentioned are via card payment.

At that point I'm feeling very much paranoid and seek out google for its 'wise council', I came across a post where someone replied they got the same/similar, yet their goods were delivered a day before. A bit more digging and I find a site which warns you of scams like this, in the warning it mentions 'customs clearance', who they claim to be, and tells of how they even use names of official customs workers, actual pictures from 'genuine' customs site pages, even supply HMRC's actual contact number.

In this case, they are calling themselves customs clearance
limited.

So yeah, I'm definitely thinking its a major scam. The last overseas order I mentioned, the seller themselves left the voicemail, I wasn't contacted by someone claiming to be a collector for customs, and the payment site was marked as secure and looked completely different from what I recall.

I think these scammers just have it in for me!

Hi guys,

Rather odd one. Last couple of days I have been trying to get onto the itunes store (on itunes ofc) and everytime I do, Windows detects a problem and closes the programme.

After extensive research (read: Googled "itunes store crashes itunes windows") I found this thread with a posted solution updated in the OP:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread...art=0&tstart=0

The solution seems to revolve around MS being lazy and not disabling a fix they did for a particular worm attack 2 years ago...even though they closed the hole that was letting it in. It seems to block access to a specific dll which the itunes store seems to need.

The suggestion in that thread is to go to:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2639417

and use the Fix It tool to disable that fix (i.e. stop it blocking that file)

I did all this, however, it still persists in closing itunes whenever I try and use the store.

Has anyone else had this issues with itunes and/or resolved it successfully in the above way, or indeed any other way (lets be honest, these things are rarely universally fixed with one solution!).

I don't actually use itunes that much for purchasing music, but rather frustrating to get this on the day that I want to check something out/buy something :)

Cheers

DED

Hi All,

I just made a post in the PC Games Deals thread but making one here as well so it won't get lost.
I noticed in that thread a lot of people use Green Man Gaming and we all eventually will need to use Origin for BF3/4 etc so I thought I would help you all out and recommend Quidco!

I use it for anything I can from ordering a pizza form Domino's to ordering off Amazon.
For Green Man Gaming alone you can get 6% cash back on all purchases, so that's great deals and 6% cash back! Win Win!

In just a few months since moving into my flat I have made £119 cash back and my Girlfriend has made about £400 cash back buying all her stuff online from Boots etc through Quidco
All I ask as a thank you is you use my referral link :)

Also, if you have a smartphone you can download their app and when your out shopping you can "Check In" to shops on the Quidco App and get 5-10p cash back just by standing outside the shop and "Checking In", You can also register your cards with Quidco and any qualifying shop will automatically give you cash back, even Cineworld and Blockbusters!

Hi guys,

So I've fancied having a go at a self build for a little while now, and seeing posts about other people doing it hasn't been helping.

However, I have a perfectly good laptop and when it is fixed a desktop.

So, I was trying to work out what sort of uses I would have for it, pretty much all I could think of was for watching films and tv on demand.. I have a ps3 and smart tv for that.

Then my main desktop died on the bank holiday weekend and I haven't been able to use it since. This wouldn't have been a major issue but the only backup of my football manager is about a two game months ago and it is the transfer window and I bought a load of youngsters that took forever to scout. I also don't have any easily available training schedules that also took forever to make (yes I am way too into my game). This gave me the idea that I needed a way to backup my stuff. BUT, if I just got an external hard drive that still worked as it should I could do easy backups anyway.

So basically I'm asking, do you reckon I should go for it or just save my money and buy a new external hard drive for backups.

If yes, what sort of thing would you recommend, I would probably want a mini PC.
