I'm trying to get a distro + DE which is light and uses less resources and hence less power so the laptop lasts longer,
is there anything I need to know about installing Arch on a PCS laptop? such as driver problems?

I've already tried Arch out on KDE and XFCE inside a VM and everything works fine (although I don't like XFCE, but eventually I could find a theme I'll like).

On a side note, would Win 7 run power more efficiently?
