    What do pcs do with.......

    Morning all

I was just wondering what pcs do with all the returned/faulty parts?

Do they just get sent back to the manufacturer or does anyone refurbish them?

most faulty parts i imagine are sent back to the manufacturer so they can send another, usually companies will have a warranty for these kind of things from the manufacturer

They probably are sold on, but fairly cheaply to a firm that will attempt to strip whatever they can of value off them. Fact is, if you had the patience, you could strip the gold off the parts yourself, but there probably wouldn't be enough in 10 average PC's to make it worth your while(taking into account the time you'd spend and the cost of the chemicals you'd require to do it).
IIRC the gold in the contacts on most components is thinner than a human hair, so it takes a lot of bits to get a reasonable quantity of gold.
So it's really an economies of scale thing.

Well, that's kind of what I meant. But the one bit that's borked out of a computer could still yield some value, even if it's not much of itself. I think you'd need to have a huge quantity of broken bits, and some very cheap labour to make it a profitable business proposition.
