    Laptop for Avid Editing

Hey all, new to the forums and looking for some help.

I am a film student and looking to become an editor, and in trying to do so im looking to buy the edit suite Avid, and have got a good deal on it already. However the system requirements for it are very precise and the requirements cannot be fully met by anywhere I have looked. The requirements are:

    •OS: Windows 7 Professional (64-bit), Windows XP Professional SP3 (32-bit), Windows Vista Business SP2 (64-bit), Windows Vista Ultimate SP2 (64-bit)
•Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.33 GHz processor or faster
•Memory: 2 GB of RAM (4 GB of RAM recommended; Windows Vista requires 4 GB of RAM)
•Graphics Card: NVIDIA Quadro FX family** (FX 560 or higher)
•Internal Hard Drive: Minimum 80 GB 7200 rpm hard disk
•Optical Drive: DVD drive for disc-based software installation

I've looked at all the higher-end laptops on the custom build section of the site, but I can't get all the requirements.

Does anyone have experience here? Are the requirements flexible or is it possible to get exactly what it needs?

    cheers

    Hi Tayz

I'm pretty sure you will have to go for a desktop if you need a Quadro card as they are rather large and won't fit in a laptop

The guy's will correct me if this is not the case or maybe they can recommend an alternative

Edit: I have just looked at the size of the Quadro cards and the FX580 I think would fit in a laptop, Maybe when the PCS guys see this they will confirm

    I'm pretty sure that this laptop would accommodate your requirements;

You can select the Quadro FX GPU using the drop down menu.

    Ahh well found, thanks!

Except something I forgot to mention in the first post that I also need a VGA out port. I also have found a couple of others that are built for CAD etc so Im looking in to them as well. Added up the amount comes to around £1600, which is a bit over my budget, any more advice would be great.

    Cheers

By the way SteveB, let us know what the PNY Quadro 4000 is like when you get it. Pretty sure you will be one of the first in the country to have one of these new fermi based quadro cards. Anice upgrade from the fx3800 that you made. If your case hadnt been delayed you would have had to stick with the fx3800.
