Hi all just to let you know made a phone call to pcs regarding my order and its on 10th working day now, the only thing holding it up is the gtx 680 which i knew about really after all the comments on here. just like to say pcs was great on the phone and was able to give me a rough estimate of me getting my pc by middle of june and they was due a deleivery but they did not turn up
. So just have to play the waiting game but it will be well worth it in the end, was given the option to choose the gtx670 but i spent so long deciding on my build i aint gonna change it now
. Thanks to pcs for being helpfull and i am a happy customer and will be even more happy when it arrives .

You know, it wouldn't be the end of the world opting for a GTX 670, not only is it much cheaper but really it isn't much slower at all. Middle of june is a long time away, i couldn't wait that long! Hell i struggled to wait a week :P

Agree with manta.. If you check benchmarks and stuff, the GTX 670 looks like it was made to replace the 680. Yes it's performs slightly slower than the 680, but the difference is so marginal that I don't think you'll find anyone that would recommend the 680 over the 670, especially with the money you save.

if they have any left, you also would have the option to upgrade to the 4gb version of the 680 - it's what I did and it was dispatched after 7 working days
it's also true that 670 is barely worse, there is a 3-5 difference in minimum fps on some games and I think it was like 10 fps max difference. In some games the 670 even out performed the 680. Though those benchmarks were made with new drivers for the 670 and older ones for the 680, the 670 is still definitely a good option!

Why not order your PC without any graphics card, buy a 680 from Scan for £430 (in stock), cheaper than PCS supply them for. It takes about 5 minutes to fit and a few minutes to install the driver.

hhmm you guys have made me think about a few things with these comments. I have just a feeling that the perfromance of the 680 will increase over time with new drivers , and on the other hand going for the 670 would free up some cash and i could spend it on some other stuff for the pc, really not sure what to do

If you decide to keep it then I do hope it's true, but I've had less luck with an older laptop GPU, the GTX 480M. Same thing, 480m came out, as the best GPU at the time for laptops, then a little later the 470m came out, that ran cooler, and even a bit better in certain cases, and it was cheaper. It never did get better with age. Although the biggest slap came in the form of the 485m, and it seemed to come out of nowhere. That said it's not a terrible card by any means, still handles most games I throw at it. Just annoying how they release things "out of order", if you consider the numerical factor in the GPU names.
But I do think the performance of the 2 cards (670 and 680) won't differ that much in time still. Yes I bet the 680 would improve over time, but I just don't think it would be so significant.

hmmm, how do you figure £430 is cheaper than we supply them for. Currently we sell this card for £429. Fact check required.

Odd, I entered my exact specification of the PC I've ordered in the config page, but with integrated Intel HD graphics, comes out at £891. I change the integrated graphics for 2Gb gtx 680 and the price changes to £1380 which is an increase of £489.

I've tried a few different specifications using firstly integrated Intel HD graphics which obviously come with the cpu, then the 2Gb gtx 680 and prices varies by a few quid for the gtx? That's even odder.
