    Ebay fees

    hey everyone,

I'm a right noob to ebay, only sold two things lol.

I have just noticed I owe them 7.21!

I thought that ebay took their money when you were paid via the buyer, or was that paypal taking their fees too?

If that is right, you get paid by buyer, then paypal take a bit, then you still owe ebay money aswell?

    thanks tom

Item Insertion Fee - Putting item on
    Upon Item selling %fee

Ebay then total this up through the month and charge you montly.

This is how I have always seen it.

With a fee like that, I take it the items you sold were pretty high value.

Edit: Think im wrong slightly, just looked:

When you sell on eBay, there are 3 types of fees,
Insertion fees, this fee is paid whenever you list an item on eBay, even if it doesn't sell,
the insertion fee varies, depending on the listing format you choose and the category you list the item under.
    Final value fees.
When your item sells, you'll be charged a final value fee that's based on a percentage of the item's final selling price.
You'll only pay this fee when your item sells
    Feature fees.
This fee is only paid if you select optional features to increase your chances of a successful sale, e.g. international site visibility, subtitle or picture pack.

ah thanks guys, answers a few questions, guess I will have to give them 7.21 then. Only made 50 quid with the two items, so knockin 7 quid off makes it kinda feel I like there wasn't much point!

What would you guys say is the best way of selling? As selling at a fixed price seems alot cheaper than having an auction style listing, as alot of buyers just bid at last minute. So in that sense its not really an auction.

This has always been the case, you do get those annoying last minute bidders however buyers are aware of this and will put in a max bid.

Ive always looked at the items on there of what I would be selling and if i know its going to sell well, I will start it at 0.99p Auction style, this way you pay no insertion fee. You can however, have an auction style starting at 0.99p and a buy it now but you will have to pay a fee for the 'Buy it now'

The fee varies on the value.

Tom - Off topic, can you go to your pic thread and answer my question please It's your fault i am having doubts now, you made me click on your pics link in sig!

It probably wont be the insertion fees that stung so much, more eBay's final fee. Sold my galaxy nexus for 600 and paid about 60 in fees and I had free insertion.
