    Steam Worth the Money ?

    yo guys

I was going through steam and looking at all the packs of games they have for offer. I noticed that Game series bundles on Steam are not the cheapest but they are OK for Steam prices. If I bought the CD/DVD versions of these games it would be cheaper but I would not get the DLC Steam offers for the games + I would get all the games patched and updated by Steam for me, saving plenty of time.

Here are some packs Im looking at ( some with their CD/DVD counterpart) :

    Men of War

    Steam Pack : http://store.steampowered.com/sub/14299/
    CD/DVD Pack : http://www.play.com/Games/PC/4-/2655...ngDetails.html

The savings on the Steam version are actaully not too bad since I think going the extra bit to save time updating and patching. And the price different between both are not even that bad.

    Company of Heros

    Steam Pack : http://store.steampowered.com/sub/1529/
CD/DVD version : There is not a complete pack but there is a gold edition : http://www.play.com/Games/PC/4-/3511...rlrefer=search

Total War Series (Excluding Shogun 1 & 2)

    Steam pack :http://store.steampowered.com/sub/11..._7_suggest__13
    CD/DVD pack : http://www.play.com/Games/PC/4-/3048...rlrefer=search

You get more from the Steam version as it gives you all the games and their DLC's.

What do you guys think. I think comparing the prices and how much Steam offers I think the Steam packs are pretty decent. Although I would have to wait ages for it to be downloaded thro my horrible connection, but its getting sorted next week so

Very nice. I think Im better off getting the whole series of each game and just working my way from start to finish, unless the start is rubbish lol.

    Convenience > Price

Even before I got BT Infinity, but even more so afterwards, the convenience of just DLing the game instead of waiting for the post/installing etc trumps the price for me. Now that being said, I am not ridiculous and if the gulf is massive then that would just be silly, but for the sake of a few of our proper English pounds, it remains worth it to me to use Steam.

In addition, as you say, there are some functionality things with using a Steam version or retail when it comes to patches/updates/DLCs etc that would just add frustration that could have been avoided for a smallish wad of cash I have bought less and less games anyway and do tend to try and wait for the sales or weekend/daily deals now, but for big new releases, Steam (and Origin for my sins) will still be my first port of call

I've not yet said anything useful, but feel free to give me +Rep anyway

Zavvi.com all the way for me, if you preorder early enough its pretty cheap! You get points for things you buy and for referring people. Corfate saved a few quid on a preorder by using my referral code so it works both ways.

I use steam for the sales mainly, but if I can buy a hard copy for the same price I will to save my download usage. But some games are just so cheap!
