Internet messed up!
I have my pc running on wired connection using the homeplugs, one plugged into my router, the other plugged into a switch port (so i can have internet to ps3+pc upstairs).
For a few months its been fine but today something went wrong.
I had my pc running wired connection, aswell as my friends laptop using wireless connection, no problems there. When i booted up my dads laptop my pc lost the internet and my dads laptop (also wireless) didnt have internet. My friends laptop still did.
I have encountered this problem before using wireless, and the cause appears to be my router not sending out the DNS (i have a belkin 54g). So i know the dns numbers so i enter them manually and problem solved. In this instance i entered the DNS numbers into my dads laptop and presto the internet is back, and my friends laptop allready had the DNS numbers entered from the past!
However i cant seem to get the pc working, possibly because its wired and i have never run into this problem before.
I have entered the DNs numbers for the pc but it didnt help.
It just says unidentified network - no network access!?
Have run through the standard win7 recovery stuff but no help either. Have restared PC, router, and homeplugs - also no help.
Any help would be much appreciated!
Edit. Just been testing an when I plug my friends laptop into my home plug it doesn't work, but when I plug it directly into the router it works,

Who is your internet provider? Are you able to contact them for support? I had some issues with my wireless connection and found some help on the support website from my internet provider.

169.xxx.xxx.xxx is a local IP adress - it gets assigned when there is no external IP address. This means that your router is not assigning one to your PC.
Routers normally assign a 192.xxx.xxx.xxx and then have an external IP address facing the internet.
Does your router have an admin page you can access? You need to check the status of the connection
You could also try rebooting the router

Somewhere in the admin pages it should show your current internet connection status, on mine its in green if connected and red if not, does depend on your router as to where the information is, but it's shouldn't be too well hidden.

Could be worth trying this, open "Internet options" from control panel, select "connections" tab/LAN settings/make sure that "Automatically Detect Settings" is checked and nothing else.

Just check this and automatically detect is only thing checked, was hoping that would be the fix haha
I have found ADSL status, which is saying no defect. that the right one?
Im pretty sure the problem is the homeplugs but i cant see a fix around this.
On the homeplugs the power led is solid which is fine
The powerline led appears to be off, which in the manual says its not connected to a powerline network or is in powersave mode
The ethernet led is solid, which means ethernet port is linked but there is no activity

That does seem to confirm its a fault with your homeplugs.
