Bit of concern from a computer nub.
Hello and thank you for reading my post.
Basically I came home from work today and turned on my computer. The fans turned on and the power/HDD light come on (I have a Coolermaster case) but immediatly afterwards I hear a noise come from within afterwards. I am not sure what it was. I doubt theres anything in there that catches together, it sounded a bit like it was coming from a component itself?
Anyway after that it carried on loading, then said ''Preparing your desktop'', when it loaded, I got a windows error message saying my desktop/file could not be found, please make sure the disc is inserted corectly?
I then restarted my computer (without the noise making a show) and my desktop loaded fine, I then shut down my computer, left it for a few minutes then restarted and all was well again.
So I am wondering what caused this? And if this was a danger message of some sort?
Thanks for reading and thanks for any help in advance,
Lee.

Sounds like your hard drive may be on its way out, i recommend making a backup onto another hard drive or maybe a cloud service like google drive which gives you 5gb free
I had the preparing dekstop thing come up on my laptop a year ago, and a few days later it would no longer boot the OS
Please add to my rep if I have helped you

Do you use any cleaner software?
Registry cleaners or the likes. It could be that a file was removed and once system was back up ok it created a new file and after restart worked fine.
Have you done any chkdsk tests or SFC check
Chkdsk
Run CMD as admin by clicking start then type CMD
Right click cmd and run as admin
Once the dos box shows type
chkdsk /f /r and press return then when it asks if you want to do the test press y and enter
Restart machine
SFC
Run CMD as admin by clicking start then type CMD
Right click cmd and run as admin
Once the dos box shows type
sfc /scannow and press return
You may need your windows installation disk at this point if any issues are found.
but immediatly afterwards I hear a noise come from within
What kind of noise??

Hi Wozza365, Hi Buzz
Thanks for your replies. I gave the PCSpecailist Tech Line a call this morning for some help and advice on the issue, they also agree that the HDD might be causing some issues.
They have advised me to schedule a Disk checker or something, which will scan my HDD and identify and hopefully resolve any problems. Will call them back Monday if the problem persists.
I dont own any cleaning software Buzz apart from Norton Security and the built in Registry cleaner. Would you care to recommend any?
Thanks again for replying fellas, appreciated.
Rep for each of you.
Lee.
