    Clicking noise

    Hello,

My new desktop is producing a clicking noise whenever I turn it on. I believe it may be the hard drive because in the BIOS there is no hard drive detected and therefore it will not boot at all.

    Help would be appreciated.

do you get a boot device cursor flashing? likes like a under score but flashes?

you say, the drive isnt in the bios. Have you clicked advanced?

When I stat it up I get a flashing underscore and then a page loads up where I can enter BIOS, select boot manager etc.

Upon entering BIOS I can see one SATA device, which is the CD drive. A few minutes ago I switched the cable over on the motherboard andit appeared in the BIOS, however when I restarted it again to try and load windows it disappeared again.

What do you mean by advanced?

top right, you can click go advanced, they I think, "boot" have a look see if the drive is there.

then if not, try pluging the hard drive into a different port on the motherboard

Can you open the side of your case and place the HDD on the very bottom still plugged in, so you can see it, then turn machine on and listen closely to the drive. If the drive is ticking then it would suggest the spindle is stuck and you would need to get new HDD.

If I've helped at all please feel free to add Rep by clicking the little star
