Real-time updating of costs and incompatability would REALLY help
I have only just started to browse the pcspecialist site seriously with a view to upgrading my ailing computer and have been very impressed with its layout and ease of use BUT two additional features would seem to be worth suggesting.
(1) As you customise one of the basic models, it would be VERY handy to have the cost updated as you go. As far as I can see, you have to wait to go through the compatability test before you see how much you're about to spend. Maybe there's a way to switch this function on as an option, but if so, I haven't found it. After all, most of us work with these annoying things called budgets.
(2) I was pleased to see that after experimenting with a couple of customising changes, there was an automatic compatability test. But what happens if you specify something that isn't compatabile? Is there an immediate and automatic flag? If not - there needs to be.
Beyond those two initial niggles, I must say that even though I'm very experienced as a PC user, I've never had time nor cause to delve into the realms of technobabble and the pcspecialist site seems to be remarkably friendly as regards providing lots of help when needed.
Added to which, of course, I'm a retired old fogey with a gradually addling brain.

Theres a little box in the top right hand corner of the page that shows the updated price when you change stuff
If you can't see it, what browser are you on?
Both of your above points are already integrated into our configurator. When configuring a system the system summery box update the total:
Try selecting too many PCI/PCI-E card in a system or 1600MHz RAM in a laptop with an i5 processor and you'll see an example of the error being flagged when you try to procced.

Thanks Rakk and PCS. I said my current machine was ailing - the window that Rakk referred to wasn't doing anything the first time I explored the site (It stayed fixed). When I rebooted later on and tried again after finding Rakk's response, I saw what he meant and everything works.
Your two replies confirmed my first impressions of pcspecialist - and the forum looks to be just what I'll need if I start to feel myself drowning in technofazeout.
