When I bought my new PCS computer in 2010 I retained my existing router which is a Netgear DG834G v.4.
I originally installed it so I could also use a laptop in another room, but seldom do nowadays. Anyway lately I have had a problem: on startup when I try to connect to the internet it hangs with a white screen for a couple of minutes then displays "Your broadband modem is experiencing connectivity issues". I try the usual things like rebooting, unplugging for a minute or so then replugging, occasionally this restores the connection but mostly not. Of course, I have checked all cables and the connections seem OK.
I searched the net for help and found that if I power on the router, wait until it is fully restarted (2 minutes), then power on the computer, it usually works (but not always). But it has got to the stage where this happens nearly every time, I rarely now get connected without this procedure.
As it all worked fine for years without this procedure, my question is: where is the problem? Is the router faulty? I tried to upgrade it but it made no difference. Of course I can easily buy a new router but would like to be sure that therein lies the problem first!
Can anyone help?
Thank you in advance.
