New Laptop - Blue Screen of Death

    Hi,

I've just got a new laptop (2 weeks ago, from PC Specialist), and I already have problems with it. During these two weeks, I've received blue screen about 5-6 times, with two different messages.

First one: STOP 0x000000F4 (and some more numbers then). It says that system was shut down to prevent damage to computer.

The other one was 0xc0000006 (fatal error)

I've received both of them 3 times each, always while watching some video (not sure if its just a coincidence). Any advice on what should I do? Is it Windows, or is it Hardware? Laptop is new, and there's not much on it as well. Could it be overheating or something? Because every time before this happens it seems like the fan is working extra hard (I might be wrong tho)

Laptop also sometimes (rarely) freezes for about a second, while watching a video. I also got a little of this today while playing MW3 - froze several times, then Blue screen happened. Seems like might have something to do with graphics card, no?

What do I do guys? Is it hardware, software or me? Do I send it back?

    Specs:
Chassis & Display Optimus Series: 17.3" Glossy Full HD LED Widescreen (1920x1080)
    Processor (CPU) Intel® Core™i7 Quad Core Mobile Processor i7-3610QM (2.30GHz) 6MB
    Memory (RAM) 8GB SAMSUNG 1600MHz SODIMM DDR3 MEMORY (1 x 8GB)
    Graphics Card NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 650M - 1.0GB DDR5 Video RAM - DirectX® 11
    Memory - 1st Hard Disk 120GB INTEL® 330 SERIES SSD, SATA 6 Gb/s (upto 500MB/sR | 450MB/sW)
2nd Hard Disk 750GB SEAGATE MOMENTUS XT HYBRID, SATA 6 Gb/s, 32MB CACHE (7200 rpm)
Thermal Paste ARCTIC MX-4 EXTREME THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY COMPOUND

For the STOP 0x000000F4 searching google has thrown up the CMOS battery/driver compatibility and hardware fault.

For the 0xc0000006 it maybe worth checking the temps of your CPU when running the video, it could be overheating if incorrectly ventilated ( ie on a bed or soft surface ).

    Regards.

I would speak to SPC Tech support first, however have you checked to make sure all the drivers have been installed correctly? or have you tried a fresh install?

    Regards.

    Hi Powka,

Was it a flash video you were watching when the bluescreens occured?

Have you had any other problems which may indicate a video driver / hardware related issue, such as huge stuttering in games, lock ups, artifacts etc, or any other performance related issues in non GPU intensive tasks?

Please post your spec and GPU driver revision here

    Thanks

I'm not really sure how to check if they have been installed correctly. All I can say is that people at PC Specialist done everything - installed my windows and drivers, so I would assume they did everything how it should be done.

No, it happened during normal video on VLC. It also happened a couple of times during the game. I'm almost sure that laptop just overheats, but it does so after being on for about an hour, which is ridiculous. It's on a cooling pad too.

How do I do my GPU driver revision mate? Specs are in the OP.

    Thanks!

To confirm your driver revision, right click desktop -> Nvidia Control Panel -> Help -> System Information.

Check the Driver Version in the Details pane.

    TEMPERATURES:

I doubt that this issue is caused by overheating if it occurs while viewing videos in VLC, however it could very much depend on the codec.

Download and run Realtemp from http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads...alTemp_370.zip

Enter the settings, check "Nvidia" in the bottom right then check "GPU" in the middle of the screen. Click GPU to change the colour of the recorded temperature.

Try runing some games in windowed mode and keep an eye on your CPU and GPU temperatures in your toolbar. If they exceed 90 it should concern you, but any lower is fine.

If you want to force this app to auto start with windows for future use, check "Start Minimized" in the bottom left corner of the settings window and put a shortcut to the program in your startup folder: C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

    DRIVERS

If your driver version is below 302.77:

    1) Download Driver Sweeper from this link
    2) Download the 64 bit (if your OS is x64) Intel and Nvidia drivers from http://www.clevo.com.tw/en/e-service...=2&submit=+GO+
    3) uninstall your drivers from Control Panel -> Uninstall a Program (intel and nvidia)
    4) Run Driver Sweeper, check for lingering Nvidia VGA files, clean an remaining
    5) retard, install the intel drivers then nvidia drivers

    Good luck
