    Optimus III, low fps!

    hey all,

so am trying to test the sims 3 on my optimus III, 650m,

getting about 15 fps on max settings,

    getting about 20fps on medium,

checked the temps of the 650m, its sat at about 54c doing nothing, whereas the integrated gpu was at 70+

I did press the button to use the 650m, but its not getting used.

How can i set the 650m to be used all the time?

    edit - just to add

changed the settings in nvidia control panel, so the sims3 uses the high performance nvidia processor,

But it doesnt work, low fps and the game goes dull.

go into graphics setting in the nvidia control panel and enable sim3 on the nvidia optimus settings? (Don't know the exact steps but I've heard a similar story and this solved it for him)
basically you are using intel 4000 and 650m isnt enabled at all
    worth a try?

hmm maybe see if you can enable the 650 globally (temporarily) so it is always on and see if its a faulty gpu or not

Have you tried white-listing the games, and using the GPU monitor that comes with the Nvidia control panel?

    To while-list do the following:

    Here we go:

    1. Right click on desktop.
    2. Select Nvidia Control panel.
    3. Nvidia Control panel will open.
    4. Select Manage 3D Settings.
    5. You will see two tabs Global Settings and Program Settings.
    6. Select Glabal and select High Performance NVIDIA Processor. (This effectively turns off Optimus using the NVIDIA GPU all the time).
    7. Or Select Program Settings.
    8. Select Add under 1.
    9. Find the game you want to white list.
    10. Click on Open.
    11. Under 2. Select High Performance NVIDIA Processor if not already selected.
    12. Select Apply.
    13. Job done, time for tea, biscuts and medals.

    Regards.

    Select Nvidia Control Panel.
    Select Desktop drop down menu.
Select Display GPU activity icon in notification area.

    thanks,

I did do all of that yesterday, and it didnt work for some reason...

But I turned it on today, and it seems to have worked, well the fps is around 50-60 on max settings at 1920 -1080.

Just need to make sure its under load with gpu z.

Yeah it seems to be working fine now, although when I alt-tab out then back in again, it goes a bit dull. But I can live with that.
