Windows ads usually suck, but i suppose its in the same vein as all Apple's ads. They dont tell me why i want their product, they just trash other peoples.
Antennae gate for example, massive design flaw in iPhone 4, Apples response? a series of videos telling everyone how it happens to other phones.

Hello all
I have to admit something.
In the world of computers, I am Bi...
I have a Mac g5 (albeit an old PPC (non intel) one) as well as PC's (as you well know).
Now, a bit of Myth busting. Macs are no better or worse than a comparable PC at Graphics/Design work. Not any more.
And the main reason they were back in the day was that the industry standard software (Quark etc) was either mac only or heavily biased that way and mainly that print houses etc only used Macs, so to deliver work to them, it needed to be in a mac format.
Things have changed indeed!
Now, are Mac crap? Absolutely not.
On the face of it OSx etc can look a bit fisher price, but it does exactly what you want and how you want. (*caveat* as long as you plug in a two+ button mouse!). The OS is very robust, rarely falls over, and there's alot of tinkering one can do at lower command line levels if one wants to.
Some things operate differently to a PC, and that frustrates alot of PC users, but that can be said of any different OS.
Now, my Mac is a good 5/6 years old, and still competes with my 2 year old core duo 2.8 in realworld photoshop and 3d rendering performance.
Its a great workhorse, and surprisingly fast. Also, when you add RAM, you really see a visible increase in performance, that you just dont really get on PC's. Odd but true. Dont know if its a good thing or not, but it's a nicer feeling using a Mac than a PC after bunging in a couple of gig. Makes you feel like youve really got something in return for your bucks!
Build quality is second to none, Taking of the G5's side plate is like removing a tank hatch. No flimsy sheet metal here! and the interior, is a joy to behold and access.
Are Mac owners smug? Yes.... just as smug as PC aficionados are! ha, got you there!
Bad parts of the Mac?
a)PRICE, PRICE, PRICE - they ARE premium bits of kit, but you pay for it through the nose.
b)Gaming - a woeful lack of native games are/were available, and I cant comment on windows performance on an intel mac as Ive never seen one in action.
c)3d apps - No 3dsMax and Softimage (xsi) etc for the Mac user, yeah there is Maya, but that's one ugly interface to work with! (im a real soppy asthete). This is a bit of a specialist gripe, but one close to my heart.
d)there's prob others, but no more than can be laid at the PC's door.
But when it comes to progs like Logic Pro, there's nothing to beat the Mac IMHO. (That includes cubase/protools/sonar etc). Music making on the Mac with logic is a joy, and the main reason I keep my old G5.
I've used the above PC progs (and many others) on the PC, but for the creative flow, I couldnt live without logic.
But, a Mac it worth it? hmmm it's hard one... if I had buckets of cash (and a job!) I'd love a new intel g5, but in the real world, ill be sticking to throwing bits and bobs at my PC as I can afford it because my immediate bang for buck is better on the PC side, even if a false economy perhaps (or perhaps not).
The final conclusion is, don't knock Macs, they are great specialist machines, different to PC's and worthy in their own right.
No better or worse IMHO, simply different.
Would I get rid of my PC for a Mac? If the performace was the same and I could run XP/win 7 on it as a dual boot with OSX? Yes definitley!
Will I ever be in a position to be able to affor it? Nah...
Ill keep on with my PC one side of me and the mac to the other. Gaming/graphics on one, music production on the other.
The next time you see a Mac user, give him a hug, they are human too...
rgds
Frank
My point exactly, I have a few friends who have bought Macbook Pro's purely because they think they are more productive and better for art and design, but they are exactly the same, except with a higher price tag. As for the music production, I personally cant comment on Logic, but all other high end music software (like cubase etc) are available on Windows.
The reason I prefer PC's is because for hardware performance and price, they are in a league of their own compared to macs, and when it comes to software, they generally have everything that's available on Mac, and more.
If I was too buy a laptop, i'd probably buy a Macbook pro because they do feel like a well polished product, and only because I would only be using it for things like web browsing etc. However, the last sentence was completely irrelevant because for what I use a PC for, and how my set-up is at home, I don't like laptops, I have had one for the past 3 years, and it only goes on if there's a power cut!
Anyway, yeah, the reasons I prefer PC's to Mac's is because of; Performance to cost ratio, and because there is much more software available for Windows.
I feel like the PC is my own and for price, there is much more power in a PC. And I don't see the Mac having any advantage over the PC. I edit photo's and video on my PC, and I produce music on PC. I honestly can't see it being any easier on a Mac.
From what I can clearly see, the PC does everything a Mac can, and more. With PC, you have choice, you can choose exactly what you want. The cheapest Mac out there, is not as powerful as a PC that would be the same price.

Being mainly a Mac user myself, I think Mac's advantage is not about better movie-making or photo-editing or anything like that, but about how Apple keeps their products simple to the majority of users. Note how they pull off older lines of products when new ones come out, so that you don't get overwhelmed. At any given time there're only that many options for you to choose from: Macbook White, Macbook Pro 13", 15", 17", Macbook Air. And also they make the distinctions about these products visible to the people who don't know much about computers: the size, the colour, not the components inside; but still you know which one's more powerful due to common sense: Pro > White, larger size > smaller size. In term of software, same story. iMovie, iPhoto are much simpler, not because they're smarter, but because they have everything set up for you: themes, transitions, colour sets, etc. You are literally just 1 click away from everything.
But the same advantage is also the disadvantage, advanced users normally don't like Mac because they are so not flexible. They take away the excitement of building a system from scratch, take away the freedom to go into little details, etc.
Edit: Oh and I'm not saying all Mac users are noobs in computer world, I'm just saying in most cases they are, like me ^^
