Genesis II touchpad linux

I recently bought a Genesis II from pcspecialist and I am unable to get the touchpad to work under Ubuntu Linux. The touchpad is not even detected. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and knows of a solution, available driver.
Also the speakers on the laptop are underneath, just wondering if this is normal as the sound is really muffled and quiet. Surely this is an obvious design flaw?

We have several customers who have ordered laptops and installed Linux, anthough it's not Ubuntu that's been most popular.
