I would like this PC to be able to play the latest games and be sure it would still do so in a couple of years.

Not too bothered about 3D really, unless anyone can convince its worth it.

    Welcome to our forums

Great spec you have put together there, well balanced and certainly future-proof. Without making serious changes, for example over to Intel Sandy Bridge, there's not much I can suggest that you should change here.

Thanks - I tried to use the advice from PC Pro magazine. If I was to change to a "Sandy Bridge" which one at same sort of cost would you recommend?

Just one question about the monitor - you'll notice I have added a TV Tuner Card and Bluray drive. I am intending to watch TV and movies - is the monitor up to it?

The monitor is more than capable!

I would recommend the i5-2400 based on your budget, as this processor costs similar to an AMD 965. If you budget can stretch however, consider the i5-2500.

You could also consider a caviar black for your first hard drive, its cache will help loading programs quicker etc,
