    Monitor question

    Hello all
    Just a quick question. I have an sandy bridge i5 on order with a gts450 card. I was wondering what monitor connectors will it have, will I need a hd cable or another type?

    Thanks for any help

    Hey,

    Just checked stock of the GTS450's for you. They come with the following;

    1 x HDMI
    1 x VGA
    1 x DVI

    So you can connect your monitor to either of these ports

    If you check your order, it will show the graphics card and the connections it has. I just looked on the main website and it lists 2 DVI's, HDMI and VGA for that card but check your order just to be sure. (In practise, the only thing that may vary is the number of DVI ports - one or two)

    You'll get exactly the same picture quality using HDMI or DVI. DVI doesn't carry any sound so if you will be using any speakers on your monitor, you'll run a second cable for audio. HDMI can carry sound but you'll have to check that your monitor supports it.

    My personal preference is to use DVI between the desktop PC and the monitor. My monitor is wall mounted so I leave an HDMI lead connected to it so that I can easily connect my laptop or camera without having to fiddle about behind the screen.

    A quick tip...

    If you will mostly be using the monitor just for the desktop PC, change the monitor's settings to always use whatever connection you use rather than leaving it to automatically detect a signal. It just stop the screen from blanking a few times everytime you boot the PC. If you want to attach another device at some point, just select the correct input manually.
