hi there

looking around for a new gaming pc as i'm due an overhall. Really impressed with the pcs site and have put a bit of a quote together using the gaming pc configurator and just wanted to throw it out there to get opinions.

Got main file storeage on another machine in the house and no need for monitors etc. Mainly into fps looking for it to play about with bf3 when it comes out, rage, new deus ex etc.

Not sure on the case, i wanted to go for a smaller one that the silver stone beast i have atm.

Unless you're planning on over clocking, just get the i7-2600 (without the 'k') It's a lot similar to mine apart from the processor and graphics cards, and playing Crysis 2 no problem, and do you necessarily need 1TB? Not saying not to get it as you can never have too much memory, but just to save some money, as i have a 500gb HDD with about 20 games installed and it's not even half way! Not being an amazing tech guru thought, i would probably say that PC should work a dream with FPS'. But im sure the more knowledgable peeps on the forums will correct me if i'm wrong :p

Id keep the 1TB hard drive
but you may want to drop the CPU to a i5 2500 (Not a lot of difference in everyday use, especially when it comes to gaming)
and see if you can increase the GPU (Though you already have a top spec GPU (without going multi GPU)) so maybe you could use the money saved to get a higher spec SSD or something

whoa dropping the cpu really does slash the price, i guess thats because the newest cpus always come in expensive.

what are the major advantages over the latest i7 over the i5? i'll admit i'm still stuck in a time mentally of the bigger the cpu the better, the 133mhz to 166mhz etc era :).

I dont really mind going up to 1600ish if the i7 is gonna be worth it long term.

The i7 is not that much better for gaming so not always worth the extra money for it.

You can get by with a i5 perfectly fine for a good few years, worse case scenario in a few years when it starts to show age just drop a faster one in there on the same socket. Will be much cheaper by then and maybe not even required before you decide a whoel new machine is in order.

My entry level Quad core done me proud for 4years before buying my current rig.

Hope this helps!

Cheers for all the advise guys, I bit the bullet and went for the i7 anyway just for my own bragging rights to my self, if you know what i mean.

Also went for the OCZ ssd and the Delux mobo for future sli. Can upgrade the psu at same time as second card if i upgrade in the future.

Ordered yesterday and its already in quality control, whey! Will post some pics and unboxing vid in the other section when she comes.
