    Cooling is far from coooool

Ok so I need some tec advice on a new heatsink or fans, possibly both.

I purchased a custom build housed in a piano black enigma case a few months ago and have only recently been checking on the temps of the pc, and I'm sure running all four cores of my i7-870 at around 80-99c is not a good thing.

so I'm looking for a recommendation for new equipment, i.e. what will do the job best, what will fit etc.

if needed ill post up the full pc's spec but if someone could please help before the thing bursts into flames i would be seriously grateful

    Thanks

    Hi there,

Firstly yeh, I would post your full spec. This way, a more informed response will be available as particular aspects of your rig may both help and hinder certain solutions.

Also, what programmes/software are you using to measure the temps? Am sure others can suggest some alternatives...to double check etc.

From my general wonderings, I understand the piano black isn't the worlds greatest for air flow/cooling, so that will no doubt be part of it.

Hopefully when the real help wakes up tomorrow they can impat far more specific sage advice!

    DED

P.S. kudos your first post after being registered for 8 or 9 months, rather impressive that

I've not yet said anything useful, but feel free to give me +Rep anyway

I all i could say in a way is, that case is not really ment to be built to have an i7 in it lol. ambient room temps can also play a role into this along with to where its being stored with how much space. sounds like a busted cooler or the standard cooler with just warm/hot air in the case?

mm to be honest, I didn't really know what I was doing when i brought the pc, i mean i had a vague idea but IAttachment 388 needed it sharpish as I got the shock by lectures at uni saying that we would need a high spec pc for the course (VisualFX & Animation) however now beginning to look more into pc builds and generally what does what I now realise i could be spending some dolla dolla on some upgrades soon than I though

but nevertheless here's the spec and all help and advice need on resolving the problem

    thanks

I can certainly see why or pretty much why on where the heat is coming theoretically.

When was the last time you gave or checked your case for dust? cleaning out the dust is a good starting point along with seeing what your ambient room temps are like. cleaning out the dust or clutter inside the case can normally help prevent case temps being improved a bit. you should also check the cpu cooler.

If you was to spend or upgrade then i would start off with a better cooling case along with a better cpu cooler

I would call in, although you do have a fairly standard case and stock cooler, those temps are too high.

I suspect a dislodged cpu fan or maybe the thermal paste has just dried up.
I dont work for PCS anymore, fix it yourself!
