Help with PC spec for HD video editing

Hi

Think I've posted this to the wrong thread.. here goes again...

I'm new to this and looking for advice on a PC for HD Video editing with corel videostudio X4 to create up to 30 minute long videos. I've gone for a high spec CPU, a good dollop of memory and disk space with a ssd for faster access.

I'm not sure exactly what graphics card to select. I've added a blu-ray drive for future development. Ditto the usb 3.0 option. I've gone for windows 7 professional for xp mode.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

David

I would say switch the 1st hard drive to be your SSD so that windows gets installed on that as i believe they always install windows on the 1st hard disk. also if you have any spare budget then upgrade to the vertex 3 ssd as it is alot faster.

The video card is very good value, however i am unsure how much speed boost you would see from upgrading it to a higher spec one. It looks fine to me but im not really sure so i will let someone else have a stab at that.

The 1333 MHz ram would be fine, however if memory serves me its not that much more for the upgraded version so its up to you really.

If it was my pc i would select no antivirus software and use the perfectly good free stuff but again its all a matter of personal preferance.

Overall just about spot on i would say, should be perfect for you.

Here is what i would buy.

Thanks Mantadog

I'll consider going for vertex 3 ssd and swapping the disks.

The 1600Hz memory seems to be the same price as the 1300hz.

Any thoughts on the usb 3.0 option?

The original spec you have is already good, if you wanted your OS on the hdd then thats fine but if you prefer it to be on the ssd then you swap it around as mantadog said. they both have their advantages and disadvantages :) cant reall go wrong with either. if you're happy with the 1600mhz due to it being the same price then go for it :) speed difference is not very noticable as its very little.

As for the usb3, you can go for it if you have good use for it but if not then you dont have to as i believe pcs already provides you with 2 extra already so its 4 in total. the motherboard already has plenty of usb ports.

I would use the ssd as the primary drive so that you get the speed benefit for your start-up and programs.
You might want to consider the Z68 mobo either way for the ssd caching and the future use of intel quicksync for fast video encoding.
