Need help building a gaming PC

Alright, and roughly how much for a PC that'll play games in 1440p comfortably? Again, they don't need to be maxed out graphically - modern games at a mix of medium/high graphics settings look amazing to my eyes compared to the Commodore 64 I started with in 1991. Like my uncle has a £3,600+ beast (bought from PCS after I recommended them) and it's mad spending so much for what looks like, to me, a relatively small improvement when you bump everything up from high to maximum, you know?

I'm not asking you to spend 45 minutes putting a whole build together here, just a rough idea of what one would cost so I know what to aim for. I might pre-order that monitor now, put it aside, then buy the computer later in the year.
For a completely comfortable system without compromising on performance, but leaving out shiny unnecessary stuff, this would be top tier 1440p

But you could leave everything the same as the 1080p build and just upgrade the GPU to the 7800XT, and if things did change in the future requiring more CPU power, you'd still have the option of upgrading the processor to an either the 7800X3d or even the upcoming 9800X3D in the future as the platform supports newer generations also.

Doing it that way comes in at £1661, and you could save a further £100ish by transferring your existing windows license rather than buying a new one.

Perfect. That's all entirely doable later in the year. Thanks for all the help.

I was blind, but now I can see!

Do come back nearer the time as by September / October, new GPU's and CPU's will be releasing so prices will change across the board, so it may well be cheaper

Oh yeah I will, I never just buy one without getting some advice first. You don't get rid of me that easily.

I would budget around £2k personally. That's not to buy what you specifically need, but what I think is the most sensible/best value. This would allow for the likes of the 7900GRE (Best value IMO) and a 1000w PSU (best option for future upgrade potential).

The key to this is to make sure the entire system is suitable for CPU/GPU upgrades/refreshes down the line. That way the high spend just now can be offset with the bargain upgrade path down the line.

And yes..... prices are crazy right now. I was £1800 for a 4k system back in 2019 before the madness. Would be £3k now for the equivalent hardware. My latest system was a little eye watering too, but I have the mindset that I'll get years out of it, with being a new AMD platform (same as the recommendations).

I wouldn't middle though, honestly. It's not worth it in the long run.
