Threadripper 7980X 64 Core : why is performance dropping over time?

Hi All,

So I just got my new workstation delivered. Running benchmarks now.

When running Cinebench2024 Multi thread, it seems that the performance is getting worse with time?

You can see what Anandtech has achieved with Threadripper 7980X 64 Core: 5,538 points

When I run that benchmark, I get similar number at the beginning (first cca 2 minutes):

3 min.jpg

But after 10 minutes it drops:

10 min.jpg

And after 30 minutes it drops even further:

30 min.jpg

Should this be expected? Are the Cinebench tests ran just for a minute or so? (I am seeing similar numbers as Anandtech's on other websites as well, all are around 5.500 points)

I've paid 9k for this workstation, so expect that it runs at its 100% potential... Please let me know your thoughts?

Thank you

It’s possible there’s a thermal limitation somewhere, you need to monitor system temps with hwinfo while you’re running cenebench tests

Thank you Spyder,
Could you point me to what to look for? I am not very fluent with these diagnostics. Am I to look at some specific parameters and if they're out of range, request a fix from PCS?

Could you post the full specs from the order page (remember to edit out your windows key)

It may be worth doing some proper stress tests rather than cinebench and running HWInfo alongside and also have Resource Monitor open on the CPU tab and include that in the screenshot you take after 10 minutes.

If you run HWInfo while you have the stress running, after about 10 minutes (while the stress is still running), take a screenshot of as much detail from the HWInfo screen as you can and then you can end the stress test. It will record lowest to highest while the test is running and then the temps at time of capture as well so we get a rough range.

Run Aida64 Extreme for 10 minutes to get temps up (free for 30 days evaluation)
