PUP.CNET.Adware.Bundle

Hi,

I was just looking for information regarding installing lead flashing on a roof and I went on one site (can't remember which one) and I had a pop-up saying that my "pc might have a virus..click here..."etc. I closed IE down immediately and ran Malwarebytes (quick scan). It found 2 things starting with "PUP.CNET.Adware.Bundle", which I promptly deleted.

On 'googling' this, it appears that this might be some sort of Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) which is actually installed by CNET (download.com)

Strange thing is, that I haven't even visited the CNET site for a couple of months.

Anyone else had this? Is this something new and should I worry about it? (I will worry, whatever you say mind )

I'm gonna run a full Malwarebytes scan and virus scan and hope for the best.

Never had it if im honest (at least i don't think i have). Scans take so long and i get bored so stop them halfway through.. Bad i know.

Just stay vigilant for the next few days for any activity on your pc. Im sure the scan will tell you if theres anything :)

Yes, I will do. Just seemed strange that a mate in work only mentioned to me yesterday that he'd got one of them "you've got a virus...click here" pop-ups a couple of days ago. He said he'd had a bugger of a job to get rid of it. He had to go through the old 'safe start' route. I hope this isn't the start of my pc grinding to a halt :(

Theres so many different forms of virus's out there, the chance of you getting that same one he had are pretty small :) Run regular virus scans for the next week or so, and im sure if there is anything, it'll catch it and zap it :)

Cheers Corfate,

On this current theme, have a read of THIS.

Also, which other download sites do you (or others) consider safe? Filehippo for example?

Holy C***!

Just had my first (in over a year) report from MSE:
Trojan:Java/Jasapryt

Here's the report from Microsoft

Currently running full scan with Malwarebytes....4 objects and counting. Not looking good :(

Would you recommend running anything else besides Malawarebytes and MSE scan, such as Spybot or something?

4 objects, does it say wht they are?

hmm, I was never a fan of mse myself (missed a load of tracking cookies on a number of pc's in my house)

see what the 4 objects are and go from there

MBytes still running, so I'll get back to you tomorrow. I will run the MSE scan later too.

Can I run Mbytes scan and MSE scan at the same time, or is it better to run the scans one after the other as I always do?

Goodnight guys....I know what I'll be dreaming of! :sleep1: :2guns: :sleep1: lol

Don't trust Cnet,

They are pioneers of piracy, they have made millions from suing people,

Cnet and their associates are criminals, they created online piracy purely for financial gain.

OK, here's an update.
I ran a full Mbytes scan and it found 6 PUP's (is that called a litter? :)). They were all PUP.Casino, so I'm not too worried about them as some of the poker sites I play on seem to generate these. Don't know why, but apparantely nothing to worry about.

Did a full scan with MSE, nothing new found since I deleted that nasty mentioned in my earlier post.

I'll have to update and scan more regularly I think.

Glad it seems alright :) My scans still running from my previous post, up to about 950,000 files so far..

Lol you always seem to have very extreme opinions, not saying its a bad thing but again I disagree with them lol.

Cnet and their associates are potentially in a case against Alki David, he believes that Cnet encouraged piracy on the internet by pushing forward downloads of programs such as limewire. I honestly doubt this will go very far in courts unless theres some stuff that the public doesn't know about. P2P software is completely legal and is used legitimately by many people to share files, I use it to share work with colleagues when other means arent suitable, the fact people started using it for illegal downloading isnt down to the fact Cnet provided the software, its to do with the fact more and more people are using the internet everyday and therefore the supply and demand for illegal downloads has become greater.

If you really want to blame someone then blame something like napster, probably the most well known website/ download in the world due to the cases that went on around it.

@Frenchy, on a totally different subject, why can't I see your signature pictures anymore? I just see a little red X. Is this something to do with my pc, or something you've done?
