CPU Fan Error

My PC has an Intel i7-950 CPU with a Titan Fenrir Evo cooler. It has recently been shipped to Thailand, where I work at the moment. I looked inside before trying to boot and one SSD had lost its power cable, but that was soon fixed and I booted up...

Error message: CPU Fan Error. Press F1 to continue. If I press F1 I get into Windows OK. But (is this a daft question?) would my setup, as put together by pcspecialist, even have a CPU fan?? I can't see any suspicion of anything spinning near the CPU, or any fan blades, but then the cooler is so big I can't see the CPU either. The Fenrir cooler seems tightly in place and all ll the fans that I can see are spinning fine, but in the BIOS only one registers an rpm value:

The CPU is very hot - but I am not sure if that is correct. When I rebooted the temp showed 35 degrees, then next time, 50 but climbing. (The PC is in a room with a/c).

I have contacted support but I daren't run the PC until this is sorted out! Any ideas? Thanks.

The fan on the Titan Fenrir Evo is situated on the bottom of it as you look at it.
check the cable connection hasn't come loose.

Actually mines on the right when you look at it. But yeah on one of the sides of the evo there will be a fan attached and this should be spinning at all times, there will be a cable running from this to the motherboard.

Thanks! I can see what's happened. The fan, which I stupidly hadn't realised was the CPU fan, has somehow come away from the Fenrir cooler. My problem now is where and how to put it back. I have an Antec 900 case and the fan slots nicely into the plastic clips on the transparent perspex part of the side panel: but with the fan slotted into the clips there, I can't get the side panel back, the Fenrir cooler and the fan get in each other's way, if you see what I mean. I don't know how the fan was fitted originally.. if not in the perspex clips on the side panel, how is it attached to the Fenrir cooler??

My M/B is an Asus P6X58D-E - the fan came unplugged and I put it back where it says 'Fan2', but I guess this is wrong and why the BIOS shows CPU fan speed as N/A. Is there a dedicated power slot for the CPU fan? I can't see one (but then the viewlines are not exactly clear!).

Will keep Googling, and waiting for tech support to reply, but any further help here will be much appreciated!! Thanks folks...

OK guys, progress is being made! (I can't believe I used to build my own PCs - though it was several years ago: things have moved on since I did an A+ course and I feel completely unequipped now. Whatever ...).

Clearly the fan doesn't fit into the perspex side panel holder, or it would be blowing air at the top of the cooler, not through the fins. And, Exhibit A, I found two metal clips, matching pics of the Fenrir cooler I have Googled, floating about in the case. So all I have to figure now (more Googling) is how the fan clips on to the cooler. I've at least managed to plug it into the right M/B header (CPU instead of 'Fan2'!) so hopefully I won't get any error messages now when I boot up.

OK, now for those metal clips ... Maybe will have this fixed with you folks' help before I hear from tech support... :)

LATER: OK, I see exactly what to do, but can't do it. I've spent 45 minutes trying to get the clips to hold the fan on the cooler and they just ping out of the little holes in the fan as I try to secure them. I am at the stage where I want to kick the PC (not a good idea) or throw it out of the window (worse - I'm on the 20th. floor). Better cool off and try again later. Whoever imagined these clips were a 'good design' ???!!!

Took a deep breath and went back after an hour - and had the clips on within 5 minutes! PC now working fine. Never underestimate the value of the deep breath! Thanks for the encouragement... :) (Still no reply from tech support - 48 hours on. Oh well.. )

Don't forget it was the weekend followed by Bank Holiday Monday during which PCS were closed. Maybe a bit of backlog on dealing with emails.

Anyway, glad you're sorted and well done going for the break followed by deep breath solution. It's amazing how often that works :)

Chock dii and sawasdee khrap!

Fair enough .. I've lost track by now of UK Bank Holidays, and my 'weekend' (days off) is Thursday and Friday! Confusing :)
