PC does not stay on - turns off after every few minutes, need SERIOUS help!

Hi there,

I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right place as my PC is the PowerGlide Extreme (http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/computers/PowerGlide-Extreme-AIO-PC/) but I will have to explain to whole situation:

On Monday, my PC randomly froze and shut down whilst playing The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim; I found this odd as my PC spec is very advanced and can play very demanding games (although I do feel that Skyrim is a demanding game, I'm saying that I can play games which are more advanced, such as Farcry 3). Whenever I started up my PC, a message displayed stating "media cable failure", so I saw a post on this forum about the issue and tried to resolve it, but I had no luck. I called up a technician and he told me that my hard drive had most likely blown, so a new one was dispatched.

This morning, my new hard drive arrived (the same exact make and model). I carefully opened the PC, took out the old hard drive and inserted the new one perfectly (well, I hope). Things were going well until I realised that when I turned off my PC, the blue monitor light would stay on, which I found very odd. Shortly after I discovered this, I turned my PC back on and installed a few games and such; when suddenly, the PC turned off. As it turned back on, it only last about twenty seconds before it turned off again, then repeated, again, and again, and again.

I was very frustrated as this had been the second problem in one week regarding my PC (even though I have a feeling it probably was to do with the new hard drive or something), I called a technician and he told me that my power supply might be over-heating, but I checked the levels and they are perfectly.

I need some advice ASAP, please! It seems that when I leave my PC off for longer, it stays on longer when I turn it on. And why is the blue light staying on when it's meant to be off? My dad has the same exactly PC and his stays off; before this whole incident, my light would always be off.

Please help me,

Thanks,

Josh

When you say blue monitor light, do you mean the light on your monitor? Ie it stays on and doesn't switch into power saving mode / standby? Or another light?

The issue you describe could be a short somewhere, with this being an AIO PC I would recommend the best bet would be to give PCS another call and request an RMA for them to do some testing. If you explain the problem is persistent and occurs often they will hopefully be able to diagnose a problem other than overheating.

Just out of interest, how did you test the temperature of your PSU(s)?

Hi,

I tested my PSU(s) using a software called HW MONITOR. Also, yes, I'm referring to he light on my monitor: it stays on when I shut down the PC, which isn't right.

I don't think HW Monitor can test PSU temperatures, especially not 'laptop' style PSU's (which the AIO has). I could be wrong though.

You are correct about the monitor, they usually go off pretty quickly. If you unplug your DVI/HDMI cable does the light go out pretty quick or does it stay on?

Do the All-In-Ones even need DVI/HDMI cables given that they are 'All-In-Ones'? (note: I've never seen one so I just don't know, but I'd kinda assumed they didn't need anything but power cables attached).

Not unless you wanted to attach it to an external monitor :) which I think the OP has

Oh right, fair enough. Definitely get back in touch with PCS tomorrow as suggested above, they will be able to sort it for you!

Thanks mate but what should I say? If I do that remote thing.. I'm worried my pc won't stay on in time.

Give them a call if at all possible, if not then email would be next bet. Just tell them what has been happening and answer any questions they might have (hence calling would be best option)

Well, explain to them what has been happening, they may be able to help you either fix it yourself with their help or they will find some other way to resolve it.

Thanks, when I called them today it was close to five o' clock so they told me to firstly check the power supply temperature and to call back and let them know tomorrow.
