Octane Series 17.3"
Main Spec:
  • 4k LED Widescreen,
  • i7-6700K,
  • 32GB HyperX (2 x 16GB),
  • NVidia 1080,
  • 480GB HyperX Savage SSD,
  • 1TB WD WD10JPLX HD,

OK, so first things first. The appearance from the outside; it is a solid, slightly heavily-designed laptop with understated looks ( it reminds me of a transformer with it's cut edges and black metal frame).
The Keyboard feels great to touch and has caused me no problem although my partner has complained about the closeness of the keys to each other (she doesn't have fat fingers either).

The running of the laptop is a dream - it's so fast to load and will deal with any tasks or games you throw at it!
Games do look great on the 4k screen but can take a bit of getting used to. Menus in some games at full res can be almost unreadable as they are so small (but that's not the laptops fault, more the games design).

The sound is great on the built-in speakers. It is clear and balanced. The fan isn't too noisy but once it does get up to full speed it can sound as loud as a hairdryer!

The only complaint about the laptop is the power cable. I don't mind that it has a chunky brick of a power block that is almost as heavy as the laptop as I won't be carrying it about. What I have struggled with is keeping the cable connection in place at the back of the laptop, as if you have it resting on your lap then it keeps falling out. This gets annoying and is a bad design flaw in my opinion. It can be especially annoying while you are in the middle of a game (that is if you notice it's came out before you get the low battery warning).

Out of 10 I would give this laptop 8 out of 10  - losing points on the power cable issue. I would recommend PC Specialist to buy laptops from (this is my first) and I would buy again from them in the future.

(hopefully they address the power cable issue by then :winkiss: )

Nice review. :)

A quick comment about '...if you have it resting on your lap...'. Laptops should never be used on your lap. Not only can this block the air vents that are absolutely vital to the health of a gaming laptop but (and assuming you are male) the heat from the laptop so close to your reproductive organs is exceedingly bad for your future chances of being a father. And I'm not kidding about that either. :)

I concur about the power cable. Its too short and keeps coming unplugged too easily.

Could do with some re-designing methinks!

2 questions
1) Battery life in gaming and in net-surfing?
2) Can the gtx 1080 handle all games in 4k?
3)Temps?

Battery drains fast if gaming in full settings as expected, although i have it plugged in most of the time so have only noticed it when the cable falls out.

Yeah so far it has handled all the games i have through at it and at 4k although i haven't run any benchmarks but my rule of thumb is if it looks good and runs smooth don't ask too many details.

Temp hasn't got too high other than once when i really pushed it by installing multiply programs in the background, downloading a few games while running a one and that's when the fans kick in to max, performance didn't lag though :)
