Hello and welcome to the fora!

Very glad you're happy with your new laptop, thanks for posting back to say so!! :)

Looks good! Make sure you test all the hardware is correct however. I like PCS but they messed up quite a lot on my first laptop order (Corrupted windows recovery USB, wrong RAM installed and eventually I got booting priority problems). Laptop still lasted over 2 years and the support was good though so I wouldn't worry too much. Just make sure not to hesitate to contact them about anything.

I wasn't aware that PCS supply Windows on a USB stick, and I certainly don't think they were doing so two years ago. If you buy Windows you get an installation DVD.

Can you post the full spec you ordered and what you actually received? Are you sure PCS didn't warn you that the RAM you ordered was out of stock and offer you a different RAM? That's usually what they do.

What booting priority issues? PCS don't make the software and if you buy Windows pre-installed that's the only bootable software on there so there can't be any priority problems.

I'm sorry, but if you're going to make claims like this, that sound to me to be very suspicious, you need to provide a lot more evidence.

Sure thing mate - but it is normal for a company to make mistakes, there's no need to get aggressive. I don't "need" to provide evidence of an experience I had with a bought product, you want me to. But I will provide what I can.

I had to go onto my other PCS account but here are the specs. Bare in mind that throughout this process, the support was fine. I'm just recommending the OP from my experience to be cautious is all, that's not a negative thing and I have just last week bought a PC from PCS so I'm not recommending that the OP use another company...

I originally had a 8GB 2400MHZ ram, for a few weeks I kept getting blue screens, eventually I would learn this was the problem. I called and they sent me a windows recovery USB as I had no CD drive. The first USB had a corrupt windows install, so I had to get another USB. They then advised me to run a memory diagnostics tool which stated a bunch of errors. Therefore I returned the laptop as the laptop would not display properly and they replaced the RAM with a 2133MHZ, as shown from the report:

Fault Report
I have completed the repair of your laptop.

The RAM has been replaced with 2133Mhz and tested overnight to ensure that the system is stable. I have also updated the BIOS to the latest version which has multiple stability fixes.

All tests have passed and your laptop is now ready to be returned to you.

We're very sorry that your computer had to be returned to us. We hope you have no further problems.

Problem [There is a problem with the screen but not a dead pixel]
System is not giving display on the screen. LED's come fan spins but no display. Unable to test with an external screen as customer did not have one or a HDMI cable.

Additional Jobs
1 Additional Order 961951 has been assigned to this RMA by Kieran Jackson. Please collect any components from stock straight away and complete this order before the RMA is dispatched.

Status Updates

Update for RMA 32760 by Jason Sivorn on 04-05-2016 at 16:06:01
Hi David. I have received your laptop and upon the 1st power up it has displayed. I noticed on your order that the system currently has 2400Mhz RAM. This has been found to cause some boot and display issues in this chassis. I would recommend to change to 2133Mhz. This is a stable RAM speed for this chassis and the performance difference between the 2 is so minor a difference is not noticeable. Please respond to this email and let me know if you are happy to change to the 2133Mhz RAM. Best regards, Jason

Eventually, I called again as sometimes the computer wouldn't boot properly and it would boot depending on whether I had plugged in some of my USB hardware, such as fans, keyboards, mouse or if the charger was in. The support stated that it might have been because it was having problems with things that were plugged in (this is what I referenced to as priority). I didn't want to pay to send in my laptop so I just left it as it was, however a few weeks it just stopped displaying properly and I have decided to get a PC as I believe this is a one off problem with PCS as their support is good and the reviews are generally good.

Please don't get so accusatory with me again, I'm not starting a war with PCS. Just advocating some healthy caution on them ensuring they contact support if any problems arise (as I had a few problems)

Let me know if you need any further information, good day.

Hi, my 2 cents. might be a good case for getting - 3 Year Silver Warranty (1 Year Collect & Return, 1 Year Parts, 3 Year Labour). or being old fashioned and having a disc drive due to this caution.

<snip, snip>

Thanks for the increased detail, but this is not quite the same as what you originally said...

You said that 'PCS messed up quite a lot on my first laptop order' and from your second post that's just not true.

One issue you criticised them for was that they 'sent you a corrupted Windows recovery USB'. As I pointed out PCS ship the recovery media with all computers as a DVD. The additional USB stick was sent at no extra cost to you, PCS didn't have to do that for you at all. The first stick being corrupted was unfortunate, but you're being grossly unfair for criticising PCS for a flaky USB stick when they were actually going the extra mile to help you out.

My beef with your original post, and to some extent the latest one, is the 'spin' you are attempting to put on your experience. Instead of spinning your experience as 'PCS sent me corrupted Windows install media and installed the wrong RAM' (which is what you said) it would have been more accurate to state that you had booting issues, sent the laptop back, and PCS asked you whether you wanted to downgrade the RAM because of known stability issues on that chassis with 2400MHz RAM. That the RAM was changed implies that you asked them to do it - how does that equate with 'installed the wrong RAM'? As for the corrupted USB stick, that was unfortunate but USB sticks fail all the time and you're being disingenuous complaining that a freebie was faulty!

Your 'advocating healthy caution' is not warranted by your experience. PCS went more than the extra mile to help you, in the end you decided to 'leave it as it was'.

PCS state they test and ensure all parts are compatible - the memory I ordered was clearly not compatible and it took several weeks for this to be discovered after first attempting to just reinstall windows as recommended by PCS (with a corrupted windows USB stick at first, so this wasn't tested appropriately either). This is a very clear mistake on PCS's part. Their support was good, but your shilling is simply making the situation appear even worse. And you should ALWAYS advocate caution otherwise you are anti consumer, you are putting forth a very bad image. You are actually making my experience suspicious and I'm starting to doubt your "volunteer" status.

I only asked them to install the new RAM after they recommended it and told me there are known compatibility issues with the RAM I had orginally purchased, this is something they should have sorted out BEFORE the build had been made (as shown by them stating they test the build before sending).

And second of all, the service is PART of the purchase, PCS did NOT go the extra mile with providing me support and sending me a corrupted windows USB recovery stick, that is their job and duty as per the contracted purchase. The only thing I could have done differently was not just leaving the laptop alone after facing some booting problems, however I didn't want to pay to send my laptop in for repairs. This is my fault I admit.

I have to say that you are overly aggressive and are coming across as a complete shill, I am still using PCS but you are considering making me just not come onto the forums again as you are very anti-consumer. I'm going to leave this conversation here as it is souring my experience.

For anyone else reading this, don't let this moderator persuade you to not be cautious, you should ALWAYS be cautious when making any purchase.

Hey, that was my take away as well. With my new purchase I have simply bought the silver warranty incase of similar situations :).

I'm not anti-consumer at all, what I'm against is your suggesting that the way you were treated by PCS is somehow less than acceptable. I fully accept that you had some issues, but PCS fixed all those issues that you sent your laptop in for.

I have no problem at all with you complaining that Clevo (note that they build the chassis) should not have stated that 2400MHz RAM was suited to that Defiance chassis, but I do have a problem with you suggesting that the way your problems were dealt with by PCS was not acceptable and that people should be cautious about buying from PCS for that reason.

If you read through the posts, I think he actually clearly states that he likes PCS and everyone makes mistakes, but I think his point was to thoroughly test the system for any niggle or bug that may have made it through testing, which is what we on the forum would all advise anyway and in fact there’s a thread on that very subject. I didn’t read anywhere any inaccuracies or prejudices in his accounting of his experience and still get the impression his advice was fair and well rounded.

It really depends on how you interpret 'they messed up quite a lot on my first laptop order' because from what he later says they didn't mess up at all, in fact they gave him pretty good service.
