Optimus IX Clevo CC and Hotkey problems

Hey, I recently bought the Optimus IX and my Control Centre2.0 doesn't work. More precisely, it opens for a sec and then disappears, being unclickable meantime. Also, I'm getting some kind of 'Unhandled Exception' from HKeyTray whenever I start the PC. How can I fix it? Or should I bring it back to the PCSpecialist for repair?

Hi Tigro :) I've moved this post to its own thread so that it doesn't get confusing with the other person's topic.

It's very unlikely it will need to go in for repair.

I'd suggest uninstalling control centre and reinstalling it. It should likely be available for download in the downloads section of your main PC Specialist account

ControlCenter2.0 / HkeyTray Issue

I have recently bought the Optimus IX laptop, I've noticed that whenever I started the laptop, it showed me an 'unhandled exception' from the HKeyTray application which response for the keyboard shortcuts and backlight color change. In addition, whenever I tried to open ControlCenter2.0, it would open for a second, then disappear straight after, being unclickable meantime. Does anyone else have this issue, if so how can I fix it? Or should I get it back to pcspecialist for repair?

On the bottom of your laptop is the Clevo sticker, on there you'll find the Clevo model number. Make a note of that model number.

Now go to the Clevo download site at http://clevo.com/clevo_down.asp?lang=en. Use the top drop down menu to find your model number, note that the list uses wildcards (x) for some models - my Optimus IV for example, is Clevo model W350ET and in that dropdown list I need to select the 'W35xET/W37xET Series' entry. In the second dropdown list select ALL and you'll see all the drivers available for that model. Control Centre (Hotkey) will be in that list and you can download it from there.

Fo the future this is the best (indeed only) location for you to get updated drivers for your laptop. :)

So the model I have is N850EK, on the website I could only find N85xEK1/N87xEK1. I'm concerned that it may be a different one due to the additional number at the end (1). Or it is the one I need in the end?
If so, I have seen that the only one with 'HotKey' is a Control Center v1.0.16 which is different to the one the laptop came with installed (Control Center2.0 v1.0.15). It must be this one, if it's the only one out there for this model, right?
In advance, I'm sorry for repeated questions from my side, I just got this new laptop and so I'm extremely concerned about not damaging the system by installing a completely wrong drive. So just bear with me until I figure out the solution.
Many Thanks.

Yes, that’s the right one and it’s a newer version.

I did as you've suggested but the only thing that showed up is that it cannot reach the website. Tried several times and got the same response. Saw that there are 3 different sites, for Asia, USA and Europe, tried them all and still go the same error. What's the reason for this problem? Is it the website or just me?

This has to be a problem at your end, possibly the DNS server you're using. I can download Control Center for your laptop model from all three ftp hosts from here.

So what should I do now? Change DNS server or is there another website that I may use to download Control Center for my model?

Don't get drivers from anywhere but Clevo or PCS.

It's difficult to know why you can't reach the Clevo ftp sites, but a DNS issue would be my first thought, try changing your DNS servers to the Google DNS at 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 and see whether that helps.

This could also be caused by an over-aggressive anti-virus or firewall on your system filtering out those sites as malicious, so take a look at those settings - or even temporarily turn them off.

It could even be over-aggressive security in your router's firewall (if you use one).

Okay, it's successful this time I guess, it came as a zip file, is it supposed to be like that? If so what do I do now, in terms of how do I process it or install it?

Yes a zip file is normal. Extract the entire contents of the zip file to a folder of your choice and then double-click the setup.exe file to install the driver. Afterwards reboot.

It works perfectly fine at the moment after I switched to the updated version. I still wonder how it comes that it didn't quite work; is it that it was installed an older version?
Either way, you have really helped me to overcome this issue. Thank you for your assistance.

I've no idea why your original Control Center wasn't working properly, but I'm happy that installing the latest driver has fixed that for you. :)

How are you finding the laptop? I'm considering getting one too. How is the build and thermals and have you by any chance run cinebench?
