What's the budget and what software are you using?

Any other uses besides video editing?

What's your plan for the HDDs?

Hi Oussebon
My budget is 1k plus the monitor. I use Adobe Elements 10 for my photo editing, Pictures to Exe 8 for the limited video editing it will do, Audacity for sound editing. In the past I've used Video Pad for more advanced video editing & would probably go back to that to start with, plus the others I've mentioned if they will run on W10. The main reason for the new PC is to upgrade from W7 Professional to W10 Professional & my current machine is 6 years old. I use the PC every day for general surfing, constructing & uploading videos to Youtube & editing digital images. The HDD's are for storing my programmes & current work & are split C & E, C being for the programmes etc & E for completed & current work. I also have a couple of separate HDD's I use as back up in case of failure of my PC. I plan to use the HDD's on the new machine the same way.

Sorry, I've removed the link from your sig as the forum rules don't allow for posting links to personal sites, blogs, etc :)

he main reason for the new PC is to upgrade from W7 Professional to W10 Professional
Note that many people have found you can actually activate Windows 10 with a Windows 7 licence:

I have personally seen this work very recently...

For photo editing, and indeed general home use and productivity, an SSD would be very strongly advisable and a huge performance upgrade. You shouldn't buy a new system, especially in this budget range, without one.

In fact just adding an SSD to your 6 year old machine might be all you really need.

SSD prices are pretty low and you can get very decent 1TB ones for ~£100 e.g. Crucial MX500

Adding an SSD is an extremely straightforward upgrade to DIY.

And even if your old PC were to then kick it in a year's time, you could still transfer the SSD to a new system.

If your current system is a PCS system (this one https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/foru...sual-slide-shows-net-surfing-no-gaming.29196/ ) I'm sure people would be happy giving advice on upgrades.

It's not like you're using Adobe CC; not sure if the performance gains from the other components are necessarily worth it.

Hi David
I'm in a similar situation to you & have been putting together a spec' for the last 7 days. The difference between us is my budget is £1K & as well as photo editing I edit video, but only up to MP4 class, not 4K. This morning I did final tweaks to my spec' & the price came to just under £1.2K. I don't know if your budget included a monitor, mine doesn't & I've allocated a further £250 for that. My new spec' is very similar to my current set up, with a few tweaks like W7 to W10, 24 to 31inch monitor & a more advanced graphics card. My new spec is below, let me know what you think & anyone else have anything constructive to add.

Coming back to this as you posted your spec up in a different topic, are you open to advice on it?

I didn't want to have to do a detailed spec advice post if it was possible for you to just upgrade but it seems you're convinced not to try to upgrade - in which case there are a lot of changes that could benefit the spec (e.g. SSD as previously mentioned), probably an AMD CPU instead, etc.

Or are you just buying this?
