Trying to Overclock Nvidia GTX 560 Ti But Screen Goes Blank Upon Saving Settings

Hi Guys,

I am new to this overclocking seen and got my older brothers old PC which has a GTX 560 in it. So interestingly I wanted to overclock it and after reading some tutorials online and watching a few youtube videos I downloaded and install MSI afterburner so whenever I turn up the bar and save the settings. The two settings that I changed was Core Clock and Memory clock. however, as soon as I press the tick my screen goes blank and PC reboots? Does anyone have a 560 here that they overclocked and mind sharing the configurations or guide a bit?
PS. before blasting at me for not googling and doing my research I did try to google whatever I could I don't want to kill my GPU as I don't have a clue of why its rebooting my computer. I have had a look at the tutorials below but no luck:

Please do let me know if you need any other Information: The PC is running Windows 10 1903, 8 GB of RAM DDR3, 1 TB HDD from Seagate and has Core i3 3220. Thank you

Is this a system originally from PC Specialist? if so, what is the full spec?

What are you setting the core and memory frequencies to? (And why are you even touching the memory before getting a stable core overclock?)

Overclocking is best done gradually, and one small change at a time. And testing for stability with each increment. If you make 2 changes at once and something goes wrong, how will you know what caused it :) Likewise if you make a big change to a value and it goes wrong - is it because the change was too big or because you shouldn't have touched that value at all - you won't know. So small and gradual, with testing after each change.

Hi, no the system is originally from PC specialist but just checked and my brother said that he replaced the motherboard some time ago. So the core clock is sitting at 915 and the memory clock to 2240. Above I did share the specs that it has that is all my brother wrote for me. I have played with the core clock a bit as you suggested to change them slowly and one at a time and it does work but as soon as I touch the memory it starts to go mad.

The Memory clock on a GTX 560 is at 1000MHz, so if it's ramped all the way up to 2240, then it's very likely damaged the card. That's waaaaay too high!

Oh ok that solves it I think, so Whenever I watched the tutorial and moved the memory clock bar all the way to the same value the guy does in the video it crashes and goes crazy let me start from 1000 and make my way up by just adding 50 mhz more?

It's quite possible the memory's had it if you applied that setting, wouldn't be surprised.

You should add in 10mhz increments.

Every single piece of silicon is different, overclocking is particular to the chip you're working with. You can't apply something someone else has applied and hope it will work, just doesn't work that way, you have to find the optimum overclock for your particular chip.

Oh thanks god its not dead yet* So It is still alive and I ended up re-installing MSI afterburner and did add 10 mhz so far so good but what if I want to go above like 200+ mhz? what do you recommend I should jump in the voltages? .1? .2? Thank you
