2080 TI coil whine.

hey all,

So I recently purchased a top end custom build pc from PCS. It has been around a month using it and I seem to get a squeaking noise coming from the tower when games are running. The card is a 2080 TI and I have tested all the fans to see it they are the problem and they are not.
Whilst in games the pitch and volume of the noise changes frequently from just changing camera angle to moving around. The noise is not present whilst in a loading screen or if I tab out of the game it also stops, until tabbing back in.

I have a suspicion it could be coil whine, and if that is so does the warranty from pcs cover that? cheers.

Yeah, that sounds exactly like coil whine.

I'd log it with PCS, they're often amenable to swapping the card out for coil whine.

Just an up date i swapped my 2080 TI that i thought was the culprit for the noise to my older 1080TI and the noise is still present in the same scenario's. Any other ideas about what it could be?

its more noticable in some games compared to others however it seems to have gotten a little worse over the last few days. the fans and gpu have been tested so im stumpted what it is

My guess would be the cooler, just put some kind of game on so it’s squeaking, then trap each of the radiator fans quickly just to see if it’s one of those.

I had already checked all the fans but double checked the cooler fans and it's not then. Could it be something to do with the CPU im kinda stumped as i have had this noise before in older pc's but it was usually something quite noticable

CPU wouldn't make any kind of noise.

The only other thing I can think would be a case fan or actual pump. I've never heard of a pump squeeking before, but I guess it's possible.

I got the same issue with my strix 2080ti on games like gta5 it makes this weird sound exactly how you described moving camera angles etc, and it stops when i alt tab, if i request it to be replaced would i need to send the whole pc back?

Sounds like a headache, not sure if i should stick with it and bare the noise😬

i checked all the case fans tough thats the thing =/! maybe it could be the cpu cooler pump?

I don't see how it can be the GPU thought as i used 2 of my other older gpus and the sound was still occuring even without the 2080ti plugged in

yeah i uploaded a video if it here on google drive. I cant record and move the mouse at the same time so its just' one pitch in this but it gets deeper aswell as being pretty high pitched like in the video.

Also when i listen to it from the back of the tower the sound sounds like it is coming from the cpu area.

I noticed there is a fan which is being hidden by the GPU on the motherboard. It could be that fan making a noise, i dont really want to mess around with it myself thought =P
