Please help a non technical :)

Hi everyone,

I am not very technical so would really appreciate some advice on what I need to get to play some decent games. Only bought the computer a year ago but I’ve just started playing New Worlds and it seems to really struggle on low settings. I would also like to upgrade it in time for Age 4 and Ashes when that eventually hits so any help will be very appreciated.

I’ve attached my current spec. Thank you :)

What's your budget for the upgrades?

What monitor are you pairing it with, what resolution and refresh rate or make and model if you're unsure?

Hi Spyder, thanks for the reply. The screen refresh rate is 60 hertz and i use dual monitor ASUS both the same.
Resolution 1920 x 1080.

Budget is around £600-800 ideally as thats more than the computer, but understand i may have to increase to have decent game play exp.

Thanks :).

It's difficult as the platform that your current computer is on is not really designed for upgrades, so if you were to upgrade anything, you'd still be limited by the cpu, plus you'd have to upgrade the PSU to fit any upgrades in the first place, so it's not a small job.

But as a cursory overview, and with the understanding you would see a bottleneck with the CPU:

Upgrade the PSU to a TXM750W PSU @ around £85
Replace the RAM with 2 x 8Gb 3200MHz @ roughly £100
Get an RTX 3060ti GPU @ £600

Then when you've got a bit of spare cash in the future, upgrade the monitor to a 1440p 144hz monitor which the 3060ti would happily power at around £300

Like I said, the CPU is going to hold the system back, but that motherboard, the case and the CPU all need replacing really but would obviously take you significantly over budget.

Ideally it would probably be better to save what you have now, take the hit and get a full replacement PC when you have around £1500 saved up. I'm afraid that PC hasn't been designed very well.

Thanks for the reply. I’ve put to the side £1,500 for a new computer with screen annoying as I only bought it a year ago.. but heyho. (I’ll keep one Asus to use for internet) Now not sure where to start on PCS to build it. I ideally just want it to run upcoming games (including New World as it’s torture currently) with ease on high graphics. I see some already produced computers on the website or is it better to get advice to make my own? Apologies, I really am not technical in computer specs. Thanks !

I find it's always better to get a custom spec, I always find there's one or two things I'd change about some of the pre-specs. With a custom build you can choose exactly what you want and it'll take the same time to arrive anyway.

This build comes to £1350, with the extra £150 I'd recommend picking up a monitor like the AOC 24G2U. Great monitor for a 1080p 144hz experience

Case
CORSAIR 4000D AIRFLOW TEMPERED GLASS GAMING CASE Great airflow case which will allow for cool components
Processor (CPU)
AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Six Core CPU (3.7GHz-4.6GHz/35MB CACHE/AM4) A pick of the bunch when it comes to CPU's for gaming. Intel is really falling behind at the moment
Motherboard
ASUS® TUF GAMING B550-PLUS WiFi (DDR4, USB 3.2, 6Gb/s) - ARGB Ready! The motherboard you'll want to pair with your CPU. This motherboard has built-in WiFi if you need it. If not, go for the non WiFi version above it
Memory (RAM)
16GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 3200MHz (2 x 8GB) 16GB is plenty for a gaming system, AMD loves fast RAM hence the 3200mhz
Graphics Card
6GB NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 2060 - HDMI, DP - VR Ready! A solid card to pair with the monitor mentioned above
1st M.2 SSD Drive
1TB INTEL® 670p M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD (up to 3500MB/sR | 2500MB/sW) Super fast SSD for Windows, applications and your most played games. If it's something you're confident in doing, I'd suggest transferring over the 1TB HDD in your current system for larger file games and general files
Power Supply
CORSAIR 750W TXm SERIES™ SEMI-MODULAR 80 PLUS® GOLD, ULTRA QUIET Good PSU that'll happily allow you to upgrade to a 1440p graphics card (3060TI/ 3070) down the road. If you can spend a little more, I'd opt for the RMx850 for the same reason
Power Cable
1 x 1 Metre UK Power Cable (Kettle Lead)
Processor Cooling
STANDARD AMD CPU COOLER Stock cooler will do just fine for the 5600X
Thermal Paste
STANDARD THERMAL PASTE FOR SUFFICIENT COOLING
Sound Card
ONBOARD 6 CHANNEL (5.1) HIGH DEF AUDIO (AS STANDARD)

Ok i know this is slightly over budget and doesn't include a monitor, but it's a great base and do you for a good few years, and black friday isn't far off so maybe pick up a 1440p monitor then

Thank you both for the suggestions there. I’ve seen there are different graphics cards. How big is the jump between the two in terms of gaming experience? If there’s not much in it the first spec with the monitor would be the best option, but if the other could last me a fair few years and my gaming experience was better I’d go with that. I’d assume I could use my current Asus monitors until the deals. Lastly, as black Friday is only next month (thanks for reminding me)! Would it be better to wait for the whole system or does PCS not usually do discounts for own spec? Thanks appreciate it

PCS don't do black Friday deals as a rule, and yeah you could use your existing monitors with the spec that I did and then get a1440p on black Friday, the card that @JUNI0R put in his spec is a 1080p card, 1440p is going to give you the best gaming experience

There's a rather big jump between the two. The graphics card in my spec would be for a 1080p 144hz monitor which would effectively give you a higher refresh experience from what you're used to. The GPU in Martins spec is the next level up, it's a 1440p 144hz card so you'd be bumping up a level of resolution and refresh rate. I made the jump from 1080p 60hz to 1440p 144hz and it was one massive change, but I'll say I felt I noticed the jump in refresh rate/hz more than the quality. Martin's would definitely give the better gaming experience but you'd also have to invest more money.

As far as I'm aware, PCS does do some black friday deals, but they're on pre-selected specs instead of ones you make up yourself.

Thank you guys.

Lastly I was about to place the order but my friend asked why have fans not been included which would worry him. Do I need them?

2 fans come with the case. With the airyness of the case and the hardware you have inside you don't need anymore but you could add some if you wanted. Alternatively go with a different case? Something like the Cooler Master TD500 is a case we're a big fan of here, plus, it adds a bit of RGB if that's something you're into!
