    PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Windows 11 slow

Hi, Sorry for the delay in replying. So I downloaded drivers from the "orders" section of my pcspecialist account and installed them, and there is a significant speed increase. It strikes me that the chipset manufacturers need to provide Microsoft with these drivers so that they're curated...

    PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Windows 11 slow

Hi, Bought two lafite laptops reecntly, same spec (as below), without OS installed. They've been built with Ubuntu 22.04 and Windows 11 on dual boot. They are like lightning on Ubuntu, but windows 11 is painfully slow. It's my first experience of 11, but we have plenty of other machines...

    PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST L142MU Linux support

I bought 2x Lafité Pro Series 15.6, with i7 XE Graphics and M.2, which is very close to L142MU Works perfectly on Ubuntu 21.10 except I can't control backlit keyboard yet. Ubuntu being very close to Mint, seems viable. It's worth noting that using linux is permitted on PCS machines and does...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Two Linux questions - dualboot and which USB drive to buy for installation

I've just installed dual-boot windows 11 and Ubuntu 21.10 on a Lafite Pro from PCS. All working fine except a minor issue with the keyboard backlight not being controllable on Ubuntu. Personally I've always prefered dual-boot over VM. I have a NTFS partition both OSs can share. Booting is...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST 'Add to cart' suggestion for multiple orders

I'd like to order multiple laptops on-line (not by phone), with separate specifications. Currently the site doesn't seem to allow anything other than multiples of the same specification. I can save multiple quotes, but I have to make a separate order and payment for each one. Our finance guy...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Basic Office PC - Ubuntu.

I thought I would post back. In the end I went for integrated graphics AMD Ryzen 5 3350G Quad Core CPU with Radeon Graphics (3.6GHz-4.0GHz/6MB CACHE/AM4) And the video performs just fine with the standard drivers. The one slight bug is that I am running XFCE and the HDMI display will not sleep.

Many thanks for your advice Stephen Yes, I will be doing the install and can fix. My worry is kernel updates though.

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Basic Office PC - Ubuntu.

I need to de-risk as it's not for me, elderly relative in lockdown. I need to configure test and deploy - location about 100miles away. So, seeing how it goes and switching between drivers is not going to work out. I might spec a different card just for that reason. Very helpful, thanks.

Many thanks. So the built-in graphics are not straightforward?

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Basic Office PC - Ubuntu.

Chat is not available at the moment. Please can I check a few things? This is for an elderly relative who has been using Ubuntu for a decade now. Only used for web browsing, emails and Libre office. Key requirement is durability. I haven't tried Ubuntu with onboard vega graphics as yet. Is...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Breathe new life into old PC Specialist PC.

Hi, One of our faithful desktops bought from PC Specialist in 2013 is in need of a refresh. Sorry for the static spec but it's way too old for me to link to anything. This dual-boots windows 10 and Ubuntu 20.04 and is mostly used for CAD and office work, plus it runs a few virtual machines...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Business grade video card?

Many thanks, though they all seem to be for workstations, which is a high power draw. This is very difficult to research, as all anyone who writes about this stuff has a passion for nothing other than processing power.

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Business grade video card?

I need to replace a video card in one of the desktops we ordered a while ago from PCS. The subject is naturally dominated by the gaming community so it's very hard to research. Need: 2x monitor ports. Min QHD. Need: Reliability Need: Durability Need: Solid Linux drivers as well as Windows...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST UEFI trouble on new build for Ubuntu

Hi, I'm looking for some pointers on the right UEFI settings :) Ubuntu 17.04 runs live perfectly fine and the install also works fine. It's installed to the Kingston SSD and there are no other discs. But the system won't boot. Playing with UEFI settings, it either goes to network boot, or...
