hmm ok. Thank you both for your input. I have to say, I'm disappointed because I only bought the thing a few months ago. I wasn't expecting it to contain a part that is so obsolete it can't perform the function it was designed for.
Hi, yes it is a PCSpecialist system. I logged in but couldn't see how to retrieve the spec from that site but I have my own list of the spec details, as follows:

The network troubleshooter won't fix it. (see attached pic) The only solution is to close everything down and restart the machine which is rather inconvenient. Any ideas?

the box seemed fine in the sense it was in tact all over and properly square but it was literally open - no tape, the top leaves flapping about.
I don't see how those dents could have occurred when it was in the box either. If you dropped the box from a height you'd expect to see general...
