Rather than buying a 2nd hand PC, and spend so much time and effort upgrading it, why not treat yourself to a new PC similar to your saved quotation? Otherwise you're going to end up changing everything apart from the case and motherboard, then have to try re-sell the individual components.

When you work out the cost, there will probably not be much difference...

yes thats true but this way i can upgrade parts when i can afford it instead of getting a loan to buy the new one.
what about this? :
Best single graphics card:
Nvidia GeForce GTX 480 <-- Get two of these since your motherboard supports sli
Doing this you will need a bigger Power supply.
PSU: 950W bronze certified corsair
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…
This power supply is one I would suggest, either that or the 1000W silver certified corsair

Hard drive:
intel x-25 m 160 GB

This is a solid state drive. Much faster than hard drive. Get 4 of them and put them in raid 0 for ultimate performance. (raid 0 basically dramatically increases the spead of your computer) every1 will go DANG THAT LOADED FAST! with 4 raid 0 of these. Watch some youtube videos of this for example. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDwr5IDzS… This is an example of just 2! imagine 4!
If you want some more storage also purchase
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…
and have that as bigger storage while you install operating system on the solid state drives. If this is not enough space you can either buy another one or use ur current 7200 rpm harddrives as backup for your solid state drives.

Fan for CPU:
Vigor Monsoon III LT Dual 120mm Fan CPU Cooler

Sound card:
I"m not as used to looking for sound cards as others may, but I came across this one
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…
It looked like a good one, and it supports asio2

As far as I'm aware newegg only ship to the USA - you are based in the UK, right?

Also - we only usually provide advice for the components we integrate into the computers sell - we cannot comment on components we have not researched or had any experience with...

Of the components you listed we only stock the GTX 480 which is a great card, cant really comment on the rest as we havnt had hands on experience of them.
