2TB Hard Drives

Why is the '2TB WD CAVIAR GREEN WD20EARS' hard drive less expensive than the unnamed 2TB hard drive? The only difference that I can see is that the unnamed one has half the cache size and costs £15 more.

The Caviar green drive is a low power unit which can spin down to a slower speed to conserve energy. Also it is not great for raid or for use as a primary OS drive. Its ideal use is mass storage.

The unnamed drive will be a standard mechanical drive.

Oh and another thing. Do you think it would be better to get the 'WD20EARS' 2TB hard drive or a 500GB unnamed one for the OS, and a 'WD10EARS' for Data storage and games.

A smaller drive for the OS with a high cache and speed (raptor / SSD if budget allows) and then a great big (or several) slow 2TB drive for storage.

Tis a winner every time, beats raid etc for reliability.
