"No signal" on Monitor

I got my new desktop PC only to find there was an immediate problem upon opening it. I connected the monitor to VGA and DVI output slots - using the respective cables each time to the horizontal slots the bottom of the tower. I should point out that there is no other "integrated" graphics on the motherboard i.e. there are no other slots available to connect the monitor. I tried two different cables in each respective slot using the appropriate cable each in each instance. I even tried to connect the PC to a different monitor, with the same results: "No signal".

I thought that maybe the graphics card software had not been installed on the PC, but I am reminded that all software/drivers a customer orders from PC Specialist is pre-installed on the PC. And yes, there is power to both units - indicated by blue lights. What's going on here? Please help.

Hi Raw-sea,

Welcome to the forums,

Sorry to hear your having problems.

When you turn the PC on what happens exactly? ie can you hear fans spinning and hard drive spinning up?

If you can thats a good start. How are you on working on the inside of a PC? (if your ok follow below)

Open up the case (removing left case side (as you look at the front of the case))
locate your RAM sticks (top right of the motherboard) and one by one release the white dimm clips located top and bottom of each RAM module, after removing each module please reseat each one in turn making sure each module is pushed home.

one each stick has been fitted power up the beast.

RAM can sometime work loose in transit and I guess from your post you are overseas.

what's the number to call PC Specialist from outside the UK?

dial 44 844 499 4000

hope this helps

[\QUOTE]

I can hear the fans spinning, the power lights come on. I don't believe I can hear the hard drive spinning. When I opened the tower, a green light was on on the motherboard.

I'm just OK at working with computers. I reseated the RAM as you described, but it made no difference.

I do not hear the BIOS post "beep" and never have. I am starting to get worried. Was this computer definitely tested?

Hi raw-sea, can you double check all your connections inside the case and make sure none have come loose in transit, also make sure the graphics card is fully engaged in its slot the main symptom from what you have described is possibly the cpu power may have come out slightly

Turns out my heat sync wasn't attached to the motherboard correctly. I don't know my way around the inside of a computer very well to realize such problems, I just know the basics. I had to get a friend in who has a degree in computer science to analyse and remedy the issue - that's not to say that this problem itself necessarily required a certified level of expertise to solve, just that it was beyond me. When the heat sync was re-attached correctly, the computer booted up without any further issues.

Thanks

Sometimes due to the size & weight of the certain CPU heat sinks, they can move slightly during a rough transit - you never know how careful each and every delivery driver is going to be with our parcels :( On the upside, its brilliant to hear that no permanent damage was caused and hope you enjoy your new PC!

We apologise for the inconvenience which this may have caused.
