PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Lockdown - What's Worth a Watch?

I`d recommend the Steve McQueen epic Bullitt ...just an awesome move still today . Stunt driving there is off the scale considering the age of the film.

Carrying a 4.5 kgs laptop + 700g charging brick + accessories is certainly a challenge :-) But with the right backpack and some well chosen curses it is doable :-) Today´s superslim laptops trying to do the same thing as a DTR is a cause for disaster . Just look at the many threads about...

I second that , DTR laptops are big and bulky , nothing one would carry around for longer times , although I did do some extensive traveling with my previous laptop which was a DTR , but then again I could not be without it :-)

You probably need a laptop with bigger cooling , more in terms of an desktop replacement laptop . I could name a few , but because this is a PCS forum for PCS builds only , I`m not allowed .

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Keyboard marks on screen on 17.3` Valeon

Kind of what I had expected , hence not sending it in. I`m not dragging PCS to court just for a laptop ... it is pointless . Now it is clear as day that the best solution is to actually sell it and be done with the issue and PCS . I`ve had many laptops over the years, but none have had issues...

    PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Laptop performance issues

Indeed it seems to be driver related for the GPU , as for the RAM .... not every SODIMM might work at full speed in the laptop and unfortunately there is nothing to be done about it from the laptop`s point of view . No BIOS settings to adjust etc , either they work or they don`t .

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Keyboard marks on screen on 17.3` Valeon

This kind of what I expected from the get go , it is a design flaw and it cannot " be fixed " . My keyboard looks brand new , but that is because I use a external keyboard to it on my desk . Considering that the flaws of the chassi cannot be sorted and that there is no guarantee that PCS will...

I have seen laptops though with Intel Xeon CPU`s and Quadro GPU`s solely meant for workstation use , obviously not PCS machines , but still they do exist . So one should not be so quick to write off laptops as workstations . But generally speaking higher clock frequency DIMMs mated with the...

I have made some minor amendments that will benefit overall , 1st a larger SSD from 1 TB to 2TB , better to think larger before buying as it is easy to run out of storage , 2nd I added the Silver Warranty as it makes more sense and gives better protection just in case and third a bit faster...

    PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST RAM timings Elimina PRO 32GB Corsair 2666MHz SODIMM DDR4 (2 x 16GB).

I agree in general with @ubuysa that most laptops are not built for overclocking , only a very few laptops have the cooling and thickness to sustain it , and these tend to be DTR`s or Desktop Replacement laptops , weighing in at +4kgs . My previous laptop was one of such laptops , but these...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Keyboard marks on screen on 17.3` Valeon

I`m hesitant to RMA mine due to the long handling time at PCS . I don`t know really

This is one of the reasons why I`m hesitating to handle in my Valeon for RMA , if it is going to take 6 weeks or more ( worse in summer due to staff holiday`s ) I would likely be better off selling it, and hope that next buyer does not care as much of the imprinting of keys to LCD panel when...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST 17.3" Elimina screen - failing after nine days

Yeah , I say RMA... that does not look good at all and not something you would be able to resolve yourself .
  15. KriSta

Another option is to buy the lowest amount of RAM with the laptop , and separately order 2x 32 GB 3200 Mhz DIMMs . It is a well known fact that Ryzen CPU`s thrives with fast memory and reap benefits with it. However be aware of the voltages and latencies of the memory before buying and check...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Are you getting vaccinated?

I guess my father and their parents/grand parents was lucky not to be involved in the war . But I guess being Swedish protected us a bit . That being said , it is a no brainer to grab the vaccine if being offered . I`ve had my 1st shot and will soon get the 2nd , by being vaccinated you protect...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Does anyone use a laptop other than for gaming?

I`m not actually using the 17"3 screen on my laptop when on my desk , I`m using my 35" UltraWide monitor . Only when travelling I would use the laptop screen.
  18. KriSta

Usually that should indeed be possible , 1 via HDMI and one via DisplayPort/USB-C . Most of laptops offered here can do that . Any specific model of laptop in mind ?
  19. KriSta

Usually a 17" laptop can have the same size keyboard as a regular keyboard as it has a wider chassi to fit the keyboard in. Some manufacturers even goes as far as implementing mechanical key switches and per-key backlight .

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Keyboard marks on screen on 17.3` Valeon

I`m hesitant to do an RMA for the issue with the screen and keyboard marks on it when lid is closed , mainly because it might take 2-3 months before RMA is done . I might just sell it and then purchase a different laptop.
