PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST My New Haswell Rig: A Two-Part Review

Time for an update. Coming up to the two year mark and my annoyance at ordering an i5 instead of an i7 got the better of me so I flashed my BIOS and ordered an i7-4790k, along with a Corsair H80i cooler. Set to work on the rig this morning and things are mighty fine. The 4790k is a devil of a...

    PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST The Evil Within

Played the first chapter and it does do well at trying to work a lot of bum-clenching moments into what's already an atmospheric game. The graphics are gorgeous and some of the cut scenes are amazing. Hopefully I'll get another hour or so on it tonight. I forgot to mention, CDKeys has it at...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Windows 10 Technical Preview

I've been running W10 Tech Preview in a VM (VMWare) since release and so far my impressions are that it's W8.2. I've modified the Start menu so that there are no live tiles on there at all, I've just added my shared folders from my W7 host for ease of access to files. The Start Menu I could get...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST BSOD Sub Forum in Tech Support

I've recently been learning how to analyse BSODs, and while I've far from mastered it yet I can do the basics and have helped out a few people eliminate their problems so far. I was just wondering if a dedicated BSOD forum would be an idea on here in the Tech Support area? If I could help a few...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST A Couple of Important Queries!!

From your manual: Here's what it says about changing RAM speeds in the BIOS, I don't see any mention of an EZ XMP mode. And it looks like <1.65v is best suited for your RAM.

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Basic PC for me Dad.

My dad's old PCS machine is finally biting the bullet, I upgraded his XP Pro install to 7 Pro over the weekend but whenever Windows runs updates the thing ends up shutting down. I can't go round to troubleshoot for him as we virtually work opposite hours, and he's absolutely useless with...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST PC in for 1 month for repairs, did they even do anything?

    1) Search for Task Scheduler via Quick Search, or Start / All Programs / Administrative Tools / Task Scheduler 2) Navigate down into Task Scheduler Library / Microsoft / Windows / Maintenance 3) Right-click on "WinSAT" and choose disable/delete. That's all that was, nothing to worry about.

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Which Spec Would You Choose!?

1600MHz is fine for stock clocked CPUs, but with a k version of the 4770 and a h100i I'd be having my first shot at overclocking. That's when the higher frequency RAM would be beneficial. I have two Blacks and a Green in my current rig, the Blacks are used for Steam, Origin, games, programs...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Recommended Steam games for kids?

My daughter is finally starting to bug me to play some games on her rig, so I'm going to install Steam for her so she can build up a small library. The trouble is I have no idea which games Steam have that are good for eight year old girls! If anybody could recommend any I'd be extremely...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Upgrading my desktop after 11 years using Windows XP

Right, you can move the files (music, photos and videos) out of the folders as you're taking up space on your SSD, but leave the folders themselves where they are. First off, open you I: drive in Windows Explorer and create three new folders for Music, Photos and Videos. Then (leaving your I...

    PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Gotham

I think it will revolve mainly around Jim Gordon. It will be good to see him get the spotlight to be honest, he's one of the best supporting characters in the Batman mythos and it's about time he took center stage. I was absolutely chuffed when Gary Oldman was cast as him as he really did the...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Windows 7 Vs Windows 8?

I downloaded the Start8 program for the free trial and I will admit it does make a world of difference. While I could probably use W8 if I absolutely had to with Start8 installed it's still not persuading me to downgrade to it! I basically did it to grab a screenshot for Keynes.

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST To upgrade or not to upgrade?

I've been toying with the idea of upgrading my PC for a while but can't seem to convince myself that anything needs upgrading. I've thought about every component individually but seem to find a reason not to do it, and they seem to be good ones. What do you think? RAM - Already have 8GB and the...
