PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Build Advice - AMD or Intel options

Thanks for the detailed explanation, makes sense. Out of interest, what system are you using for MSFS?

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Build Advice - AMD or Intel options

Thanks Scott! I originally set out with X3D in mind just because of its MSFS performance but just wanted to keep options open with the 13600K given its recent reviews and benchmarks. Will probably settle for the X3D In regards to the mobo you selected, what’s the advantages of this board vs the...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Build Advice - AMD or Intel options

Hi All I bought a gaming laptop a couple of years ago from PCS and recently a few circumstances have changed and I am now looking to move to a desktop PC. The build will primarily be used for MSFS and I am currently torn between an AMD 5800X3D build or an Intel I5 13600K build. From reading...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Nova shutting down under load

Just to update everyone on this - received my Laptop back today and all working again. PCS found the fault to be on the motherboard and replaced it which resolved the issue. :)

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Nova shutting down under load

Cheers Spyder I thought so. I know they don't sell the Nova anymore but assume they still carry spares. Slightly disappointing\concerning this has happened when its only 10 months old but lets see what PCS say:)

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Nova shutting down under load

Just an update on this - I received a new power brick today from PCS but unfortunately that hasn't resolved the issue  So I can only guess its an issue with the GPU itself. I will contact PCS again but I am guessing the next step is to RMA this? Does anyone know what the procedure might be...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Nova shutting down under load

Normally it’s plugged into a surge protected power strip but I have tried it directly in the wall in another room as well and it’s the same result unfortunately

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Nova shutting down under load

Nope if i unplug and replug at the laptop end, it still doesn’t recognise AC power. Have to unplug at the power brick. Yeah I thought that, assume those bricks have some sort of safety switch in them.

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Nova shutting down under load

Will do, I have messaged PCS now. I've asked if PCS can send out a replacement brick and then if that resolves the issue, I may also purchase an additional spare just in case for the future - looks like they are still available in My Spares.

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Nova shutting down under load

Yeah that is what I am thinking, hopefully its just a bad AC brick rather than the GPU. I will raise a support message to PCS. Think first solution would be to try a new power brick unless they suggest otherwise. I nearly bought a spare when I got the laptop but decided against it - wish I had...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Nova shutting down under load

During the Furmark test, GPU temps never go above 50c - because its losing AC Power, it won't push the clock past 1200mhz so temps never rise. I get a whopping 11FPS during the Furmark QHD test because its running on battery :) If I run a heaven benchmark, as mentioned that will lead to a...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Nova shutting down under load

Ok starting to get somewhere now I think :) As soon as I start a Furmark GPU Benchmark - QHD Preset test, the laptop loses AC power connection and switches to battery. In order for it to recognise AC power again, I have to unplug the wall plug to power brick lead and plug it back in.

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Nova shutting down under load

After some further testing earlier, I ran a cinebench R23 multicore test absolutely fine. Obviously that type of test uses primarily the CPU only. So that would seem to point to either an issue with the GPU or an issue with the power brick when both CPU and GPU are drawing high power. are...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Nova shutting down under load

Oops attached now! Just to add as well, when using the laptop for browsing\downloading there is no issue, i was on it for 2 hours earlier without a problem. Its only when its under any sort of load.

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Nova shutting down under load

I'm struggling to find how to enable logging in Ryzen Master, can't seem to find the option. So I ran another Heaven benchmark at stock CPU settings with HWInfo64 enabled and it shutdown after 20 seconds or so. Attached is the CSV log (renamed extenstion to .txt for upload). EDIT: I've also...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Nova shutting down under load

Yes I have ran with an under volt previously up to now when gaming however I’ve tried it at stock settings and same issue. yeah I think RM can log to a file although it doesn’t log GPU temps as far as I know. Will run a benchmark again later and log RM readings to a file to try capture everything

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Nova shutting down under load

Yep complete shutdown and loss of power. Only warning it’s coming is the few seconds of slowdown beforehand. Sometimes Heaven benchmark will last 45 seconds, other times it will go after 10-15 seconds!

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Nova shutting down under load

Hi All Purchased a Nova last July which has been running absolutely great until this week when it has started to shut down when under any sort of load. For example playing RDR2 or running a Heaven benchmark, it will shut down after a minute or two at most. It does not appear to be a temperature...

PCSPECIALIST, PCSPECIALIST Screen Flickering Vyper 17.3 inch

Sounds like you will need to RMA it unfortunately. If you connect it to a monitor does the issue still persist? That way you can at least narrow it down to likely being the GPU or the screen
