Aye that was it. Apparently you can't download the ISO and 'dd' it to a USB like you can with Linux. It boots but won't install.
Had to create a Windows VM in order to "burn" the Windows ISO to a USB. Anyway, job done, cheers
I got the installer ISO direct from Microsoft. The Windows installer will boot fine, I can choose my language and keyboard layout, then I get to the "A Media Driver Is Missing" screen, like this one:
Some suggestion is to look for an 'sccm' driver pack for the hardware. Can't find such on...
Uhh, nice to know the Cosmos 7 is already superseded by the Cosmos 8!
Anyway. This 7 has an ethernet on the side, but I don't suppose it's worth while my commenting further on the hardware, given you're contemplating the newer release.
In the end I settled on FC30 as an OS. Suze LEAP...
Oh well. Noisy spinner replaced with super quiet SSD of same capacity. That was almost ridiculously easy, APART from, PCS seem to have installed hard rubber bumpers behind the HDD, and the new SSD was about 0.01mm longer - actually I think the difference was in the depth of the mating of the...
Easy job? Hard?
I've just taken delivery of this COSMOS VII and am instantly regretting speccing it with a spinning HDD. I almost didn't get a second drive at all, but thought it might be useful to back up the nvme on to, or as media storage. But it's so loud and annoying.
I've configured my...
Perhaps I was spoiled by that Asus Chromebook, but it was perfectly acceptable to listen to talking on. Or hold a speaker phone call. Frankly this is not.
Still though, the increase in everything else makes it overall a good upgrade.
Arrived.
I'm cautiously pleased.
This Cosmos 17.3" laptop is as fast as I'd hoped and runs Ubuntu Mate really well [so far]. Full review coming up in the Linux section.
Spec is i7, 16GB, 256GB WD Black nvme.
The problem is the sound. I know it's a laptop but the on board sound is so bad...
The BlueZ stack is, how shall I say, "interesting". I rarely have need for it fortunately.
It sounds odd, but usually these days to "guarantee" hardware compatibility with dongles for Linux, I usually buy such accessories from a Raspberry Pi retailer (not linking here). You can be fairly sure...
I did see those threads yeah. I don't expect any problem I can't overcome, I've been installing and using linux on computers since 1994 with slackware on floppies and my day job is all linux based development.
Ah yeah I might have mentioned that.
The 6 core i7, onboard graphics (no nvidia card), 16GB RAM, 250GB nvme, 1TB HDD.
Be doing development, docker, code editing with sublime.
I hummed and Ha'ed between the 17 and 15" versions of this laptop, but went for the 17 because the specs on the...
Just waiting for the cycle to run through before I get my hands on it.
Currently planning to put Ubuntu MATE 19.04 on it, anyone got thoughts on that, or tips? Or recommend something else?
